Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme

Domestic efficient lighting programme is the scheme launched by Indian central government (ministry of power). The main objective of scheme is to encourage the use of LED bulb across the country, home, office, street light and replacing current bulb and tube lights and CFL bulbs with LED. Through DELP scheme lots of power conservation will possible by reducing power consumption. Which will reduce electricity bill and will help preserve environment. The scheme also provides LED bulbs at a subsidized rate for replacing traditional or CFL lamps to households.

Benefits of Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme

  • Use of LED bulbs will help in saving of energy around 24 crore units every year for country.
  • LED bulbs have a very long life, almost 50 times more than ordinary bulbs, and 8-10 times that of CLF, and therefore provide both energy and cost savings in the medium term.
  • The scheme provides LED bulbs at a subsidized rate so that it is cost saving for beneficiary.
  • A LED bulb consumes 133% lesser electricity and has five times more life span compared to other bulbs and long lasting and economical. Health point of view also, LED bulbs emit lesser ultraviolet and infra-red radiation.
  • Those domestic consumer uses inverter will be the major beneficiaries by using LED bulbs by increasing the duration of power availability during longer periods of power cuts. It would also enhance the durability of the inverter battery life due to reduced number of charging and discharges.
  • Maintenance cost will be reduce of the inverter by 50% with the increased battery life.
  • Consumer will get the LED bulbs at about 40% of the market price under the DELP Scheme. Consumers also have the option of paying for the remaining in equated monthly installments.

Eligibility for getting benefits of Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme

  1. All people across the country are eligible for this scheme or can take benefit. Only one condition is there beneficiary/consumer must have metered connection from their respective Electricity Distribution Company.
  2. Through the DELP scheme consumers can avail from a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 10 LED bulbs, depending on the region.

Document required for getting benefits of Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme.

  1. Photo copy of the latest electricity bill
  2. A copy of photo ID proof
  3. A copy of residential proof (The address on the residential proof must match the address on the electricity bill.)
  4. Cash advance in case of on-bill financing (balance amount recovered from the electricity bill) or full amount in case of upfront payment for each LED. In case of upfront payment, address proof is not compulsory.
