Education Loan Scheme for Disabled Persons

The Education Loan Scheme for Disabled Persons is launched by government of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and implemented by National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC). This scheme is especially launched for disable students who deprived from education due to economically weaker background. Under this scheme a term loan granted to Indian Nationals for pursuing higher education in India or abroad where admission has been secured. Students can avail loan up to Rs. 10 lakh in India and up to Rs. 20 lakh in abroad. This scheme is open for all Indian students. Benefits of Education Loan Scheme for Disabled Persons:

  • Education Loan Scheme for Disabled Persons provides benefits by providing education loan to Indian nationals for pursuing higher education in India or abroad where admission has been secured
  • Maximum amount of loan student may avail depends on repaying capacity of the parents/students
  • Studies in India: Maximum Rs. 10.00 lakh
  • Studies Abroad: Maximum Rs. 20.00 lakh
  • Less rate of interest: 4% per annum
  • A rebate of 0.5% on interest to women beneficiaries
  • The loan to be repaid within 7 years after commencement of repayment.
  • The beneficiary will submit the copy of marks-sheet after every term/semester to the SCA for further submission to NHFDC
  • The repayment as per repayment schedule would commence one year after completion of course or 6 months after securing a job, whichever is earlier
  • Loan up to Rs. 4 lakh no need any security but more than Rs. 4 lakh security required as per State Channelizing Agency

Required eligibility and conditions for applying Education Loan Scheme for Disabled Persons:

  1. Any Indian citizen with 40% or more disability is eligible
  2. All courses having employment prospects are eligible like e.g. Graduation courses/ Post graduation courses/ Professional courses, other courses approved by UGC/Government/AICTE etc.

Document required for applying Education Loan Scheme for Disabled Persons:

  1. Aadhar card
  2. Bank details e.g. IFSC code, MICR code, account number, branch name
  3. Disability certificate
  4. Nationality proof e.g. domicile certificate
  5. Academic certificates
  6. Academics marksheets
  7. Photocopy of bank passbook
  8. Passport size photograph
  9. Bonafide certificate
  10. Estimate of fees

Application procedure:

  3. Application in the prescribed format to be submitted to the State Channelizing Agency for sanction of loan as per the lending policy of National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation
  4. No processing fee/ upfront charges
  5. Deposit of Rs. 5000 for education loan for studies abroad which will be adjusted in the margin money
