Educational Assistance to Children of Prisoner

When a person is convicted for any crime and gets punished it’s not only him/her who suffers, the one who suffers the most are their children. They get deprived of all their rights, they suffer lack of education, respect and financial crisis. To help such children there is a scheme Educational Assistance to Children of Prisoner under which they are given financial assistance to carry on their education. The initiative is by Kerala government which is already appreciated for the literacy rate came with an another such great scheme for prisoners.

Benefits of Educational Assistance to Children of Prisoner:

  • 500 per month: Student who are studying in 1st std. to 10th std. will get Rs. 500 per month i.e. Rs. 6000 per year
  • 1000 per month: Students who are in their 12th std. and undergrads will get Rs. 1000 per month i.e. Rs. 12, 000 per year  

Eligibility for Educational Assistance to Children of Prisoner:

  1. Child must be the son/daughter of the prisoner
  2. Prisoner who is sentenced to jail for 2 or more years is eligible for the scheme
  3. Prisoner must be from Below Poverty Line

Documents Required:

  1. Complete application form
  2. Educational details of child (previous exam mark sheet and bonafied certificate)
  3. BPL card
  4. Ration Card

Application form:

The prisoner who wish to avail the scheme need to submit the application form to superintendent of jail available there itself.
