Free Bus Pass Scheme for Students Launched in Tamilnadu

Free bus pass scheme for school and college students has been launched by the Tamilnadu government. Free bus pass scheme of the state government is aimed at benefiting the students from poor background. The scheme has benefited 28.05 lakh students in 2015-16 according to the official release. Each student will be issued a smart card bus pass under the scheme. This has been done to make the process of education a lot cheaper by cutting down a transport cost. This scheme is launched by joint effort of State education department. This scheme is valid up to December 31, 2020.

Benefits of Free Bus Pass Scheme for Students:

  • This scheme is launched only for the purpose of benefiting the student and student will be provided with smart card
  • The student will be able to use their smart card at the time of traveling by bus with the help of this service
  • The school and college going student will be able to travel without giving any fare
  • The student poor background will get benefit from this scheme especially as it is hard for them to pay bus fare at the time
  • Under this scheme each and every student will be able to travel without giving any fare

Required Eligibility and Conditions for Applying Free Bus Pass Scheme:

  1. All school student between the ages 8-14 or from standard 1st to 8th are eligible for this scheme
  2. Students from government arts, Science College and government polytechnic college are eligible for this scheme
  3. The student of industrial training institute (ITI) are also eligible for this scheme
