Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships

The Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships aim to provide Indian faculty, researchers, and professionals residing in India the opportunity to teach, conduct research, or carry out a combination of lecturing and research at a U.S. institution. Depending on the U.S. host institution, it is likely that the grantee may contribute towards developing curriculum and conducting workshops and seminars. These fellowships are for four to nine months. If you are applying for a Flex Award, the minimum length of the total grant is four months and the maximum is six months. Applications are invited in the following fields only: Agricultural Sciences; Bioengineering; Climate Change Sciences; Computer Science (with emphasis on cyber security and digital economy); Economics; Education Policy and Planning; Energy Studies; International Law ( limited to environmental law, immigration law and labour law); International Security and Strategic Studies; Materials Science (with emphasis on environmental applications); Neurosciences; Public Health; Study of India (limited to anthropology, history, sociology, and visual and performing arts); Study of the United States (limited to anthropology, history, sociology, and visual and performing arts); Urban and Regional Planning (with emphasis on waste management and smart cities); and Women’s and Gender Studies.

  • The selected candidate will get the monthly stipend
  • The accident and sickness program for exchange will also be arranged as per the US Govt. guidelines
  • The scholar will also get unpretentious settling in Allowance and a professional allowance
  • For grantees having 8 or 9 months grants, additional dependent allowance & international travel may be provided, in case the dependent stays with grantee in US for 80% of grant period. This however, depends on the fund availability

Required Eligibility and Conditions for Applying Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships:

  1. The applicant should be a responsible Indian citizen who can contribute to a full and fair picture of the culture and civilization of India, and thereby help to promote understanding and friendship between the peoples of the United States of America and India
  2. The applicant must be residing in India at the time of application. No applications will be accepted from Indians residing, working or studying outside of India
  3. should have a high level of academic/professional achievement
  4. The applicant must demonstrate proficiency in the English language to undertake the proposed project/program and adjust to life in the U.S. The applicant may be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  5. if shortlisted for an interview, must appear in person for interview at the USIEF office in New Delhi
  6. Applicant must inform USIEF well in advance if s/he needs to travel abroad
  7. Applicant must be eligible for leave, if employed and must be in good health
  8. must not be applying for or holding permanent residence (green card) in the United States
  9. must give an undertaking to return to India on the completion of the fellowship

  1. Bio Page of Passport
  2. Writing Sample
  3. TOFEL/GRE score card
  4. FNAPE Applicant Annexure
  5. FNAPE Employer’s Endorsement Form
  6. Curriculum vitae
  7. Scanned copies of mark sheets or transcripts and diploma/degree certificates;
  8. Scanned copies of proof of work/professional experience
  9. Three reference letters

  2. If this is your first application, you will register as a new user. Click Create an Account under the New User? Section
  3. If you are a re‐applicant, you must create an account using a new email id and password
  4. Application filled should submitted online and upload all the documents
  5. Once you submit your application, you can NO longer make any changes to it
