Junior Research Fellowship in Engineering & Technology

The Junior Research Fellowship in Engineering & Technology is started by central government (University Grants Commission) for candidates who wish to pursue research leading to a Ph.D. degree in engineering and technology. The objective of this scheme is to provide an opportunity to research scholars to undertake advanced study and research in engineering and technology, and agricultural engineering, leading to Ph.D

Benefits of Junior Research Fellowship in Engineering & Technology:

  • The Junior Research Fellowship in Engineering & Technology provides benefits in terms of financial assistance to the students who want to pursue research leading to a Ph.D. degree in engineering and technology
  • Fellowship: 14000 per month for initial two years and Rs. 15000 per month for remaining tenure
  • Contingency: 12000 per annum for initial two years and Rs. 25000 per annum for remaining tenure
  • Departmental Assistance: 3000 per annum per student to the host institution for providing infrastructure to the researcher
  • Escorts/Reader assistance: 2000 per month in cases of physically handicapped & blind candidates
  • HRA: As per rules of the University/ Institutions will be given

Required eligibility and conditions for applying Junior Research Fellowship in Engineering & Technology:

  1. The University Grants Commission (UGC) or the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) are not conducting National Education Testing (NET) examinations in these fields. Therefore, M.Pharma and M.E., M.Tech. Students are given this opportunity, through the direct interview conducted by the Commission
  2. All Minimum qualifications are a master’s degree in engineering/technology/pharmacy, with 55% marks
  3. GATE is not a mandatory condition for getting a research fellowship to pursue Ph.D. candidates need to hold an M.E./M.Tech. Degree
  4. The age limit is 40 years as on 1 July of the year of award, extendable by 5 years for women and SC/ST candidates
  5. A total of 5% of the fellowships are reserved for candidates belonging to SC/ST who fulfill the requisite qualifications laid down for the award
  6. In case of non-availability of SC/ST candidates, these slots will be made available to general candidates

Application procedure and documents required for applying Junior Research Fellowship in Engineering & Technology:

  1. Passport size photos
  2. Graduate and postgraduate degree certificates
  3. Caste certificate
  4. Cast validity if required
  5. Aadhar card
  6. Identity proof e.g. voter ID, Driving license
  7. Previous year Marksheet
  8. Bank details, account holder name, account number, IFSC code, MICR code
  9. Research related proof if any available e.g. IEEE paper
  10. Details of research for which candidate is applying
  11. Disability certificate if candidate is

Application procedure:

Applications are invited in the prescribed format once in a year through advertisement in leading newspapers and the AIU Newsletter

  1. Step 1: Candidate has to download application form from official website i.e. http://www.ugc.ac.in/jrfet/Downloads/JRFET.pdf
  2. Step 2: Fill the application form properly and attached all required documents along with signature of respective authorities like Principle, Head of the department
  3. Send it to respective address mention into references below
  4. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of merit
  5. Shortlist candidates will get call for interview
  6. And then candidate will be selected

Duration of fellowship:

  1. The tenure of fellowship is initially for a period of two years as a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). After expiry of two years the work of fellow will be evaluated by experts and if found satisfactory, his/her tenure will be extended for a further period of three years with enhanced emoluments as a Senior Research Fellowship (SRF)
