National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS)

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved a National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme. The Scheme has an outlay of Rs. 10,000 crore with a target of 50 lakh apprentices to be trained by 2019-20. The scheme is aimed at providing training to students in their field which will further help them in the placement and obtaining a suitable job. The scheme will be implemented by the Director General of Training (DGT) under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). Apprenticeship Training is considered to be one of the most efficient ways to develop skilled manpower. It provides for an industry led, practice oriented, effective and efficient mode of formal training. The scheme will start from October 1, 2016. Even if employers have engaged apprentices before the said date, they can avail the benefits from October 1 only.

Benefits of the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme:

  • The scheme will cover 5 million apprentice by the year 2019-2020 which is more than Germany which has 3 Million currently. In china the rate is 20 Million. To keep up with other countries in the world India must have had such scheme
  • The scheme will not be benefitted for the apprentice but also it will lead to commercial advantage for the companies
  • Central Government will provide financial incentives to the employers to engage apprentices
  • Central Government directly share 25% of the total stipend (maximum of 1,500 rupees per month per apprentice) payable to an apprentice with employers
  • The central government is supporting basic training which is considered an essential component of apprenticeship training
  • The Government will bear the 50% of the total expenditure incurred on providing basic training to an apprentice
  • All transactions including registration by employers, apprentices, registration of contract and payment to employers will be made in online mode

Required Eligibility and Conditions for Applying National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme:

  1. Aspirants passed out from ITI courses
  2. Trainees under “dual-learning mode of training” from any ITI
  3. Candidates who are done with PMKVY/MES course
  4. Candidates who possess minimum educational qualification required for a trade and have not undergone any formal training in an ITI/PMKVY/MES, remember that these candidates are designated as ‘fresher apprentices
  5. The apprentice must have Aadhar card issued by Government
  6. Aadhar number linked Bank account

  1. ITI degree mark sheets
  2. Residence Certificate
  3. BPL Card
  4. Income Certificate
  5. Aadhar Card

  2. Select the appropriate one and continue filling the details on National Apprentice Application Form
  3. Fill the details regarding Personal, Contract and Technical details are to be entered in appropriate columns provided
  4. Finally select the trade preference and click on Submit Button
