National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities

The Central Sector scheme of National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities has been launched with the objective of providing financial assistance to the students with disabilities for pursuing higher education leading to degrees such as M. Phil. and Ph.D. in India. The scheme was effective from 1st April 2012. Scholarships will be available to Indian students with 40% disabilities. Scholarship will be awarded for pursuing only one course per student. This scheme  will not only enable them to be eligible for employment to the posts of Lecturers lying vacant in various colleges and universities but will equip them to effectively take advantage of the growing opportunities at the national and international level in the context of the new economic order.

Benefits of National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities:

  • National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities scheme provided benefits in the form of financial assistance for higher education
  • Fellowship (For All Subjects): Rs.25000/-p.m. for initial two years and Rs.28000/-p.m. for remaining tenure
  • Fellowship (For Humanities, Social Sciences and Commerce): Rs.10000/-p.a. for initial two years and Rs.20500/-p.a. for remaining tenure
  • Contingency (For Sciences and Engineering & Technology): Rs.12000/-p.a. for initial two years and Rs.25000/-p.a. for remaining tenure
  • Departmental Assistance [Discontinued as per pattern of e-payment towards RGNF-SC/ST and MANF]: Rs. 3000/- p.a. per student to the host institution for providing infrastructure
  • Escorts/Reader assistance: Rs. 2000/- p.m. in cases of physically handicapped & blind candidates

Required Eligibility for Applying National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities:

  1. Financial assistance will be available to Indian students with at least 40% disabilities
  2. Any student with disabilities who has been admitted to M.PhiI./Ph.D. degree in a University or academic institution is eligible for the award of Fellowship subject to provision of the scheme
  3. Scholarship will be awarded to one student for pursuing only one course
  4. Continuation/ Renewal of the award for next year will depend on successfully completing the course in the preceding year with minimum 45 (forty five) percent marks for professional courses and 40% for other courses
  5. A scholarship holder under this scheme will not concurrently hold any other scholarship/ stipend

Document required for Applying National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities:

  1. Parents/Guardians income certificate (up to 2.5 lakh)
  2. Certificate that shows student is 40% or more than 40% handicapped
  3. Bank details: account number, account holder name, IFSC code, MICR code, branch name
  4. Aadhar card
  5. Previous years pass Mark sheet
  6. Birth certificate
  7. Passport size photographs
  8. Application form which is available online
  9. Cast certificate if required
  10. Domicile certificate

Application Procedure:

  1. The scholarship scheme will be advertise through media or website or newspaper
  2. The applicants should submit their application through the online system within the last date prescribed for receipt of applications
  3. The candidates after filling up the application on-line shall submit a print out of the application to the institute/college in which he/she is studying
  4. Final selection will be done by the department of disability affairs based on the recommendations of the state education department
