National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology (NMAET) for Farmers

National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology (NMAET) is a new 12th Plan programme approved by Government of India in February 2014. Under this scheme, the government with an objective to spread farm extension services and mechanization or other activities for Agricultural Extension and Technology under this programme. The objectives of the National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology (NMAET) which encompasses extension, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Seeds, Agricultural Mechanization and Plant Protection aims to restructure & strengthen agricultural extension to enable delivery of appropriate technology and improved agronomic practices to the farmers through interactive methods of information dissemination, capacity building & institution strengthening, To improve reach of farm mechanization to small and marginal farmers by various means including promotion of custom hiring centers, To make available quality seeds and increase Seed Replacement Ratio and  To promote Integrated Pest Management and plant protection measures. The National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology (NMAET) consists of 4 Sub Missions i.e. Sub-Mission on Agricultural Extension (SMAE), Sub-Mission on Seed and Planting Material (SMSP), Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM), Sub-Mission on Plant Protection and Plant Quarantine (SMPP).  The scheme is implemented through State Governments. However, some components in NMAET implemented through central government of India

Eligibility for National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology:

  1. All the states and Union territories in India are eligible for financial assistance under the National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology
  2. All farmers in the state are eligible for National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology

NMAET Consists of Four Sub Missions:

  1. Sub-Mission on Agricultural Extension (SMAE)
  2. Sub-Mission on Seed and Planting Material (SMSP)
  3. Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM)
  4. Sub-Mission on Plant Protection and Plant Quarantine (SMPP)

Objectives of NMAET:

  1. Implementation of NMAET:

  1. The Mission is implemented through State Governments. However, some components like pesticide registration & quarantine regulation, national institutes, Mass Media, Kisan Call Centre & SMS Portal are implemented through central government of India
  2. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Para-extension workers, Farmers Organizations etc. are encouraged to participate and provide extension and training services and guidance to farmers to improve agricultural production and productivity
