NHFDC Scholarship Scheme for Students with Disabilities from National Fund

The NHFDC Scholarship Scheme for Students with Disabilities from National Fund is launched by the government of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and implemented by National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC). This scheme is specially launched for disabled students. Under this scheme, 500 Scholarships will be awarded to eligible students with disabilities for pursuing higher academic/professional or technical qualification and financial assistance will be available to Indian students with at least 40% disabilities certified as per definition under Persons with Disabilities Act 1995. Benefits of NHFDC Scholarship Scheme for Students with Disabilities from National Fund:

  • Scholarship of Rs. 1000 per month for hostellers and Rs. 700 per month for day scholars studying in professional courses at graduation and above level, and Rs. 700 per month for hostellers and Rs. 400 per month for day scholars pursuing Diploma/Certificate level professional courses. Course fee reimbursed up to ceiling of Rs.10, 000 per year
  • In respect of students with cerebral palsy, mental retardation, multiple disabilities and profound or severe hearing impairment, for pursuing general/professional/technical/vocational courses after class 8th will get Rs. 700 per month for hostellers and Rs. 400 per month for day scholars

Required eligibility and conditions for applying NHFDC Scholarship Scheme for Students with Disabilities from National Fund:

  1. Students who have disability 40% or more are eligible
  2. Students who are permanent residents of Indian are eligible
  3. Scholarship will be awarded to one student for pursuing only one course
  4. Continuation/ renewal of the award for next year will depend on successfully completing the course in the preceding year with minimum 45 (forty fifty) percent marks for professional courses and 40% for other courses
  5. Financial assistance will be given for pursuing post-Matric/Post-Secondary technical and professional courses including Ph.D. & M.Phil from recognized institutions. However, for students with disabilities of Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, Multiple Disabilities, and Profound or Severe Hearing Impaired, the minimum educational qualification will be class 8th pass and scholarship will be awarded to them for pursuing general, technical, vocational or professional courses
  6. Monthly family income of the beneficiary should not be more than Rs. 15,000/- from all sources
  7. A Student should submit only one application along with all the relevant documents together with recommendations of the Institute concerned
  8. Applications for the award of scholarship should be countersigned and recommended by the head of the institution in which the applicant is enrolled for study

Document required for applying NHFDC Scholarship Scheme for Students with Disabilities from National Fund:

  1. Income certificate of parents
  2. Nationality certificate e.g. domicile certificate
  3. Disability certificate
  4. Course fee receipt
  5. Previous year marksheet
  6. Academic records or marksheets
  7. Receipt of eligible assistive devices duly countersigned by the authorized signatory of the institution
  8. Aadhar card
  9. Bank details e.g. IFSC code, MICR code, account number, branch name
  10. Hostel certificate or certificate from the house owner in case of accommodation hired by at least by a group of 3 students living together with common mess arrangements

Application procedure:

  1. Students, who meet the eligibility criteria indicated in above section, may apply for NHFDC Scholarship by filling online against Scholarship Disabled Students
  2. First of all, students need to visit the official website i.e http://www.nhfdc.nic.in
  3. After that press ‘Apply Online’ link and read the instructions carefully before applying
  4. Fill the form properly and enclose the required xerox copies of documentation
  5. Take a printout of the system generated form
  6. Disability certificate should be in pdf, doc format having file size not more than 100 kb.
  7. Current year paid fee receipt should be in pdf, doc format having file size not more than 100 kb
  8. Candidate photo should be in jpg, bmp, png format having file size not more than 50 kb
  9. Cancel cheque or Copy of passbook should be in pdf, doc format having file size not more than 100 kb
  10. In case of renewal form marksheet of previous year In case of semester system, enclose marksheet of two semesters in one pdf Up to 100k
  11. The last date of application often comes in October month each academic year
  12. Printed copy of form duly countersigned and recommended by the head of the institution (where student studying) along with requisite certificates should reach at the stated address below
