Post-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

The Post-Matric Scholarship for students with disabilities is started by central government (ministry of social justice and empowerment) department of disability affairs to support them to study further in order to prepare themselves to earn their livelihood and find a dignified place for themselves in the society as they face several barriers physical, financial, psychological, mental in pursuing studies and living with dignity. The scholarship scheme aims to provide a scholarship to those disabled students who are pursuing post-matriculation diploma/certificates and a bachelors degree or diploma in India.

Benefits of Post-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities:

  • The post-matric scholarship provides following benefits to disabled students as a financial assistance like e.g. scholarship, allowances and other expenses
  • The rate of Maintenance allowance (in Rupees per month):
  1. Bachelor’s Degree courses in Medicine, Engineering, Technology, Planning, Architecture, Design, Fashion Technology: Rs. 1200 for hosteler and Rs. 550 for day scholar
  2. Professional courses leading to Degree, Diploma, Certificate in areas like Pharmacy (B Pharma), LLB, BFS, other Para-medical branches like Rehabilitation, Diagnostics etc: Rs. 820 for hosteler and Rs. 530 for day scholar
  3. All other courses leading to a graduate degree e.g. BA/B Sc/B Com etc: 570 for hosteler and Rs. 300 for day scholar
  4. All post-matriculation level non-degree courses for which entrance qualification is High School (class 10th ) e.g. senior secondary certificate (class 11th and 12th ) both general and vocational stream, ITI courses, 3-year diploma courses in Polytechnics, etc: 380 for hosteler and Rs. 230 for day scholar
  • Additional Allowances depending on disabilities of the student:
  1. Reader allowance for blind students Rs, 240 per month for all courses
  2. Escort allowance Rs. 160 per month for severally handicapped students
  3. Coaching Allowance: Rs.240/- per month towards extra coaching to mentally retarded and mentally ill students
  4. Special Allowance: Rs.160/- per month is admissible to any employee of the hostel willing to extend help to a severely orthopedic-ally handicapped student residing in hostel of an educational institution, who may need the assistance of a helper
  5. The students pursuing such courses are also eligible for an annual allowance of Rs.1200/- for essential/prescribed books, besides reimbursement of course fees
  6. Study tour charges up to a maximum of Rs.1600/- per annum

Required Eligibility for applying Post-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities:

  1. The scholarship is open to nationals of India only
  2. Student must have more than 40% disability (Certified by competent medical authority of the state governments/UT)
  3. Not more than two disabled children of the same parents will be eligible but in case of second child is a twin, the scholarship under this scheme will be admissible to both the twins
  4. Scholarship for studying in any class will be available for only one year. If a student has to repeat a class, she/he would not get scholarship for that class for a second year
  5. These scholarships will be given for the study of all recognized post-matriculation or post-secondary courses pursued in recognized institutions
  6. Annual parent income of disabling student should not more than Rs. 250000 (2.5 lakh)
  7. Only those students will be eligible who have passed matriculation or higher secondary
  8. Students who pursue their studies through correspondence courses are also eligible
  9. Once awarded scholarship will remain until completion of course

Application procedure and document required for Scholarship:

  1. Parent’s income certificate (up to 2.5 lakh). If parents no more the guardian’s income will be taken into consideration
  2. Certificate that shows student is 40% or more than 40% handicapped
  3. Bank details: account number, account holder name, IFSC code, MICR code, branch name
  4. Aadhar card
  5. Previous years pass Marksheet
  6. Birth certificate
  7. Passport size photographs
  8. Application form which is available online
  9. Cast certificate if required
  10. Domicile certificate

Application procedure:

  1. The scholarship scheme will be advertised through media or website or newspaper
  2. The applicants should submit their application through the online system within the last date prescribed for receipt of applications
  3. The candidates after filling up the application online shall submit a printout of the application to the institute/college in which he/she is studying
  4. Final selection will be done by the department of disability affairs based on the recommendations of the state education department

  4. The make a login by entering ID and Password will be generated
  5. Application form will open fill the required information along with upload photograph
  6. Take a print out of that application form and submit it to school with documents
