Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Caste (SC) students studying in Class 9th and 10th

The Union Cabinet has approved a new Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Pre-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Caste (SC) students, studying in Class 9th & 10th. The decision will go a long way in improving participation of SC students enrolled full time in secondary education in Government schools or in a school recognized by Government or a Central/State Board of Secondary Education. The Scheme will help in minimizing the incidence of dropout, especially in transition from the elementary to secondary stage of education. The state government will receive 100 percent Central assistance from the Government of India for expenditure under the Scheme. The Scholarship under the Scheme will be available for studies in India only and will be awarded through the Government of the State/Union Territory to which the applicant belongs. About 22 lakh ST students are estimated to be covered under the Scheme every year.

Benefits of Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Caste students:

  • Rate of scholarship for Normal students/disabled Students is as follow:
  1. The pre-matric scholarship will provide financial benefits to the students
  2. Rate of Scholarship (in Rs. Per month) payable for 10 months in an academic year: For day scholars Rs.  150/- and for Hostelers Rs. 300/-
  3. Book and ad hoc grant (Rs. Per annum): For day scholars Rs. 750/- and for Hostelers Rs. 1000/-
  • Additional Allowances for SC students with disabilities is as follow:
  1. Monthly reader allowance for blind students: Rs. 160/-
  2. Monthly transport allowance, if such students do not reside in the hostel which is within the premises of the educational institution: Rs. 160/-
  3. Monthly escort allowance for severely disabled (i.e. With 80% or higher disability) day scholars/students with low extremity disability: Rs. 160/-
  4. Monthly helper allowance handicapped student residing in the hostel of an educational institution who may need the assistance of a helper: Rs. 160/-
  5. Monthly coaching allowance to mentally retarded and mentally ill students: Rs. 240/-

Required Eligibility for applying Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Caste students:

  1. Student should belong to Scheduled Caste
  2. Students Parent/Guardian’s income should not exceed Rs. 2 lakh per annum
  3. Student should not be getting any other Centrally-funded Pre-Matric Scholarship
  4. Student should be a regular, full time student studying in a Government School or in a School recognized by Govt. or a Central/State Board of Secondary Education
  5. Scholarship for studying in any class will be available for only one year. If a student has to repeat a class, she / he would not get scholarship for that class for a second (or subsequent) year

Documents required for applying Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Caste students:

  1. Parent’s income certificate (up to 2 lakh)
  2. Bank details: account number, account holder name, IFSC code, MICR code, branch name
  3. Aadhar card
  4. Previous years pass Mark sheet
  5. Birth certificate
  6. Passport size photographs
  7. Cast certificate
  8. Domicile certificate
  9. Certificate that shows student is 40% or more than 40% handicapped(If applicable)

Application procedure:

  1. The scholarship scheme will be advertise through media or website or newspaper
  2. The applicants should submit their application through the online system within the last date prescribed for receipt of applications
  3. The candidates after filling up the application on-line shall submit a print out of the application to the School/Institute in which he/she is studying

  2. Click for registration and fill required information
  3. ID and Password will be generated
  4. Students have to login by entering ID and Password
  5. Application form will open. Fill the required information and upload photograph
  6. Take a print out of that application form and submit it to school with documents
