Pre-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

The pre-matric scholarship for students with disabilities is started by central government (ministry of social justice and empowerment) department of disability affairs. The scholarship scheme aims to support parents of students with disabilities for education of their wards studying in classes 9th  and 10th  and to improve participation of students with disabilities in classes 9th  and 10th  and at the post-matric stage of education simultaneously support them to study further in order to prepare themselves to earn their livelihood and find a dignified place for themselves in the society as they face several barriers physical, financial, psychological, mental in pursuing studies and living with dignity

Benefits of Pre-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities:
The pre-matric scholarship provides following benefits to disabled students as a financial assistance like e.g. scholarship, allowances and other expenses

  • The rate of scholarship and grant:
  1. Rate of Scholarship (in Rs. Per month) payable for 10 months in an academic year: For day scholars Rs.350 and for Hostelers Rs.600
  2. Book and ad-hoc grant (Rs. Per annum): For day scholars Rs.700 and for Hostelers Rs.1000
  • Allowances:
  1. Monthly reader allowance for blind students: Rs.160
  2. Monthly transport allowance, if such students do not reside in the hostel which is within the premises of the educational institution: Rs.160
  3. Monthly escort allowance for severely disabled (i.e. With 80% or higher disability) day scholars/students with low extremity disability: Rs.160
  4. Monthly helper allowance handicapped student residing in the hostel of an educational institution who may need the assistance of a helper: Rs.160
  5. Monthly coaching allowance to mentally retarded and mentally ill students: Rs.240
  6. 50% of the total scholarships available each year shall be reserved for girl candidates

Required Eligibility for applying Pre-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities:

  1. The scholarship is open to nationals of India only
  2. Student must have more than 40% disability (Certified by competent medical authority of the state governments/UT)
  3. Not more than two disabled children of the same parents will be eligible but in case of second child is a twin, the scholarship under this scheme will be admissible to both the twins
  4. Scholarship for studying in any class will be available for only one year. If a student has to repeat a class, she/he would not get scholarship for that class for a second year
  5. The student should be a regular, full-time student studying in class 9th or 10th in a government school or in a school recognized by govt. or by a central/state board of secondary education
  6. Annual parent income of disabling student should not more than Rs. 200000 (2 lakh)

Application procedure and document required for Scholarship:

  1. Parent’s income certificate (up to 2 lakh). If parents no more the guardian’s income will be taken into consideration
  2. Certificate that shows student is 40% or more than 40% handicapped
  3. Bank details: account number, account holder name, IFSC code, MICR code, branch name
  4. Aadhar card
  5. Previous years pass Marksheet
  6. Birth certificate
  7. Passport size photographs
  8. Application form which is available online
  9. Cast certificate if required
  10. Domicile certificate

Application procedure:

  1. The scholarship scheme will be advertised through media or website or newspaper
  2. The applicants should submit their application through the online system within the last date prescribed for receipt of applications
  3. The candidates after filling up the application online shall submit a printout of the application to the School/Institute in which he/she is studying
  4. Final selection will be done by the Department of Disability Affairs based on the recommendations of the State Education Department

  3. ID and Password will be generated
  4. The make a login by entering ID and Password will be generated
  5. Application form will open fill the required information along with upload photograph
  6. Take a print out of that application form and submit it to school with documents
