State Organic Farming Policy for Farmers in Maharashtra

State organic farming policy launched by state government of Maharashtra for farmers. The scheme is implemented by agriculture department of Maharashtra. Under this scheme, government has to encourage organic farming in Maharashtra. The State Government has formulated a special policy for the organic farming in the state. The policy has defined organic farming as an integrated method, which uses local natural resources for farming and rejects the use of chemicals for cultivation. This scheme is to encourage farmers to use organic inputs to improve the soil fertility rate, to certify the organic agricultural area, marketing for sell organic product, branding of organic agricultural products and promoting organic farming. Maharashtra government has to propose to organize a group of 15 to20 farmers at village for organic farming in the state. The State has aims to bring 8 to 10 lakh hectares of land under organic farming in the next 5 years. This policy is implementing in entire Maharashtra state excluding Mumbai and Suburban areas. In Maharashtra state, about 200 lakh hectares area is under cultivation and number of farmers groups practicing organic farming techniques. The total area under organic farming is still small, but it is growing steadily due to low cultivation cost of such farming in the state

Eligibility for State Organic Farming Policy:

  1. All farmers are eligible for organic farming
  2. Individual or group of farmers also eligible
  3. An SC/ST farmers also eligible
  4. A women farmers also eligible
  5. Tribal farmers also eligible State organic farming policy

Documents required for State Organic Farming Policy:

  1. Applicant Aadhaar card
  2. Applicant 7/12

Application procedure:

  1. The state government of Maharashtra implements organic farming in the entire state
  2. The farmer contact district or Taluka level agriculture department of Maharashtra for organic farming
  3. The farmers also contact gram panchayat in villages
