To provide assistance to the children in the state who lost both the parents/ earning parent due to covid-19 thereby ensuring their welfare

On June 20, 2021 the Odisha government announced a new scheme for covid-19 orphans named Ashirvad across the state. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Under this scheme, the children who lost both their parents or lost one earning parent due to covid-19, will get a financial assistance of Rs. 2,500 from the state government. This assistance will be provided till such children turn 18 years of their age. Amount will directly be deposited in the beneficiary bank account. When the child is adopted by some relative then such children will not be provided with any specific financial assistance under this scheme.  Under this scheme the state government will take various welfare measures for those children who lost their parents/ earning member in the family due to covid and are facing hardships. Upbringing and education of such children will be taken care of by the government.

  • Beneficiary children will also be eligible for a house under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana
  • District wise Child welfare committees will take care of the property of the orphan children
  • CM directed the district collectors and officials to ensure that no eligible child is left out from availing benefits under this scheme
