Biju Saharanchal Vidyutikarana Yojana (BSVY)

The Biju Saharanchal Vidyutikarana Yojana is started by Odisha State Government the State Government formulated the BSVY scheme for attaining the goal of providing access to electricity to the people living in authorized villages/slums/wards having a of 100 or less along with BPL HHs residing in the unelectrified areas of ULB (Urban Local Bodies). The scheme essentially covers beneficiaries residing in slum settlements in urban areas encompassing three Municipal Corporations, 37 Municipalities and 63 NACs (Notified Area Councils) in the State. There was a demand from various quarters to extend the scheme to the Municipal Corporations/Municipalities/ Notified Area Councils (NACs) of the State which were still unelectrified and the people living in these areas were deprived of electricity. Besides electrification of these unelectrified urban areas, it was also required to strengthen the existing infrastructure to meet the growing demand for electricity of the existing consumers of urban areas

Benefits of Biju Saharanchal Vidyutikarana Yojana:

  • Biju Saharanchal Vidyutikarana Yojana provides benefits in the form of electrification of these unelectrified urban areas, to strengthen the existing infrastructure and following mentioned things will be done under this scheme
  • Electrification of un-electrified wards/slums inside the Municipal Corporations, Municipalities and NACs
  • Electrification of BPL HHs in the un-electrified wards/slums in Municipal Corporations/ Municipalities/NACs, and Up-gradation of capacity of the distribution system in order to come up with the additional load
  • Improving quality of life in urban slums is one of the development goals of scheme

Required eligibility and conditions for applying Biju Saharanchal Vidyutikarana Yojana:

  1. There is no eligibility and conditions for this scheme because this scheme is implemented for development to un-electrified wards/slums in Municipal Corporations/ Municipalities/NACs, and Up-gradation of capacity of the distribution system that’s why individual will be automaticity benefited by the scheme

Coverage under this scheme:

  1. Three Municipal Corporations, 37 Municipalities and 63 NACs (Notified Area Councils) in the State
  2. A cluster approach is adopted for selection of wards/slums, and such wards/slums are accorded priority for electrification over those which are isolated and scattered
