Cash Transfer Scheme for Tribal Students, Maharashtra

To provide financial assistance to the tribal students for helping them to get school essentials like stationery, uniform, books, etc

Maharashtra government is reviewing the Direct Benefit/ Cash Transfer scheme launched previously for the tribal students. Under this scheme a certain amount of cash was transferred to the tribal students for purchasing items like stationery, school bags, books etc. Current MVA government is reviewing whether the cash transfer scheme is as effective as it seems or stationery items should be directly provided to the students instead of cash. A committee has been set up by the Tribal development department of Maharashtra for reviewing the scheme and a report is to be submitted by the committee by the end of February, 2021

Objectives:

  • The main objective of the scheme is to provide assistance to the tribal students in getting the school essentials on time
  • The scheme will enable the students to pursue basic education without any difficulty
  • It aims provide help to the students to study irrespective of financial constraints and difficulties
  • Stationery, books, uniform, umbrellas, etc are the items which are to be brought by the students from the financial assistance provided
  • It will lessen the financial pressure on the student and his family

  • Maharashtra government is reviewing the implementation of Direct Benefit/ Cash Transfer scheme in the state
  • This scheme is for the tribal students wherein the students get cash transfer from the state government directly into the bank accounts for purchasing school essentials like stationery, books, uniform, etc
  • It was launched previously in the year 2018 aiming to avoid delay in the education of students due to financial difficulty
  • Verification is being made to check if this cash transfer is actually effective or materials like stationery, books etc should be given in hand thereby
  • A committee has been set up by the Tribal Development Department, Maharashtra to review the effectiveness of the transfer scheme
  • The committee will visit the residential schools in tribal areas of Nandurbar, Gadchiroli, Palghar and other to take an overview of the real time situation, converse with the students and parents regarding the scheme, etc
  • The committee will submit a report by the end of February, 2021 regarding the same
  • Accordingly, decision will be made regarding the system to be adopted and relaunching of the new version of the scheme
