The newly elected central government has announced a budget of Rs. 13,343 crores for Control of Foot & Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis Scheme. It is an existing program but the center & state government`s share was 60:40 in the scheme. Now with the new budget allotment the Govt of India will bear entire cost
Government want to permanently eradicate foot & mouth disease which are very common in cow, bulls, buffaloes, sheep, goats & pigs.

Objectives:
- To completely eradicate diseases in the cattle
- To make sure they are healthy
- To support farmers
- To make sure farmers give vaccinations to their live stock
- To provide alternate source of income to the farmers
- To increase farmer`s income
Vaccination Coverage:
- 30 crore cows-bulls & buffaloes
- 20 crore sheep/goat
- 1 crore pigs
Control of Foot & Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis Program Highlights:
- Outlet of Rs. 13,343 crore for next five years in order to fully control the disease
- Vaccination coverage for all the live stock at the regular interval of 6 months
- 100% vaccination coverage
- A relief to livestock rearing farmers
The initiative is one of the couple of important decisions taken in the Modi 2.0 cabinet. The government is committed to the farmers & wants to increase farmer`s income by 2022. Cattle rearing & live stocks provides important alternative source of income to the farmers. The government wants to protect them. FMD is very common among animal & is the cause of infertility & loss of milk. It takes 4 to 6 months to cure resulting in the loss of revenue.
