Craftsman Training Scheme in Maharashtra

The Craftsman Training Scheme was introduced by government of India in 1950 to ensure a steady flow of skill workers in different trades for the domestic Industries, to raise quantitatively and qualitatively the Industrial production by systematic training, to reduce unemployment among the educated youth by providing them employable training, to cultivate and nurture a technical and industrial attitude in the minds of younger generation. The scheme, most important in the field of vocational training, has been shaping Craftsmen to meet the existing as well as future manpower need, through the vast network of ITIs’ in the state the day-to-day administration of ITIs’ under the Craftsman Training Scheme was transferred to State Government with effect from the year 1956. In Maharashtra State, there was the steady growth of ITIs’ from 1960 to 1990 and till the-the total No. of ITIs’ functioning was 822(Govt. ITI – 417 & Pvt. ITI -411) and the intake capacity for training was 128750 (Govt ITI – 92064 & Pvt. ITI – 36686). In 1995 Government of Maharashtra has taken a policy decision to establish one ITI at each Taluka. Accordingly, from 1995 to 1998, 181 new ITIs’ was introduced, raising the intake capacity of ITIs’ to 64268. During 1999-2000,35 more ITIs’ have come up raising the total intake capacity to 65704 In Continuation to the decision taken by the Government in 1995 to start one I each Taluka Government have taken decision to start 32 Government ITIs in newly created 32 Talukas, in 2006

Benefits of Craftsman Training Scheme:

  • Under the Tribal Scheme, the trainees residing & not residing in Hostels are given subsistence allowance of Rs.600/- & Rs.500/- respectively
  • 50% of students admitted in ITI are paid stipend @ Rs 40 /- per month. Candidates belonging to reserved category are eligible for stipend @ Rs 60 /- per month. Out of this Rs. 60/-, Rs 20/- per month is contributed by the social welfare department
  • Post Metric Scholarship is applicable to Scheduled Caste & Minority trainees

Priority to Women Education:

  1. To promote women for Vocational Education, 15 ITIs are started for women only. Moreover, in the ITIs which have been started w.e.f. 1990 with 6 & 8 trades, in which 2 trades are reserved for women and ITIs with 4 trades, are having 1 trade for women. In addition to this, there are 25% seats are reserved for women in General ITI’s

Eligibility Criteria for Craftsman Training Scheme:

  1. Age of candidate should between 14 to 40 years
  2. Higher age limit for reserve category is 40 years & for ex-serviceman is 45 years
  3. Residence of Maharashtra

Application procedure for Craftsman Training Scheme:

  1. A candidate can directly visit ITI institute for more information

  3. Admission of ITI is strictly on merit basis.As per GR There is a reservation for SC/ST/NT & OBC candidates
  4. Also reserved for physically handicapped student passing with SSC technical, children/wards of project affected person & ex/in-service defense personnel. There is also the provision in ITI’s started in 1990 with 6 & 8 trades in which 2 trades are reserved for women & ITI’s with 4 trades are having 1 trade for women. In addition to this, there are 25% seats are reserved for women in general ITI’s. Admission forms are accepted within 10 days after the declaration of SSC result
