Free Hostel Scheme

The Free Hostel scheme is started by Tamilnadu government (Department of Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes and Minority Affairs) for students who belong to backward classes, most backward classes and denotified communities (BC/MBC/DNC). The objective of the scheme is those students belongs to economically weaker sections and backward classes provide them better residence facility so that they must be able to pursue education.

Benefits of Free Hostel Scheme:

  • Free Hostel scheme provides following benefits to beneficiary students
  • Free boarding & lodging facilities
  • Two sets of polyester cotton uniforms to student’s up-to 10th Std
  • Special guides for 10th and 12th  students
  • Woolen sweaters to hostels in hill areas
  • Free textbooks to students studying from 6th to 8th  Std
  • Separate hostel will be for boys and girls

Required eligibility and conditions for applying Free Hostel Scheme:

  1. Parental income of candidate should not be more than Rs. 50,000 per annum
  2. Candidate must belong to backward classes, most backward classes and denotified communities (BC/MBC/DNC)
  3. Distance limit of 5 km. from residence (for boy students)
  4. No distance limit is prescribed for girl students
  5. 4th to 12th  standards are admitted  in school hostels
  6. Degree and polytechnic students are admitted  in college hostels

Document required for applying Free Hostel Scheme:

  1. Caste certificate
  2. Caste validity (for particular students who pursuing engineering or other degrees )
  3. Income certificate stating income up-to Rs. 50,000 per annum
  4. Aadhar card
  5. Residence proof e.g. certificate form residence authority
  6. Identity proof e.g. college/school identity card, election card
  7. Ration card
  8. Certificate that stating candidate belongs to minority community (required if candidate belongs to minority community)
  9. Bonafide certificate
  10. Application form

Application form:

  1. Printed application forms are available with the wardens/matrons of the respective government hostels and District Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Officers in the districts. Students aspiring to get admission into the government hostels can easily obtain the admission forms and resubmit them to the District Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Officers
