The Government of Uttarakhand (Social Welfare Department) provides hostel facilities for boys and girls who belong to scheduled caste & below poverty line families in the state. Currently, more than 15 hostels for boys/girls are made available for (SC) category students who are pursuing higher education. In this hostel, food also serves for the student and each hostel has a capacity of 48 students. The main objective of the scheme is to provide accommodation and other facilities like foods etc. to the scheduled caste category students belongs to below poverty line families who are studying in higher education in the state. The population of Scheduled Castes is 19 percent in the total population of the Uttarakhand state and the population of Scheduled Tribes is 4 percent. The government has started various schemes for the welfare of Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes student. Students who are the permanent residents of Uttarakhand state can apply under this scheme but students need to qualify some eligibility norms which are mentioned below in the article. Students of weaker family can take benefit of this scheme
