Maharashtra Government is planning to revamp the Jeevan Amrut Yojana (blood-on-call) scheme to make it more beneficial to people. The state government is seeking to strengthen the network of blood storage units in rural areas instead of the current mechanism of transporting blood through motorcycles. Under the scheme, the request for blood will have to be placed by hospitals. The patients will have to pay Rs 450 towards the cost of blood and Rs 50 to Rs 100 as the cost of transportation depending on the distance involved. The scheme is aimed at facilitating blood supply to patients scheduled to undergo surgeries and medical procedures in remote areas. Benefits of Jeevan Amrut Yojana:

  • The patients will have to pay Rs 450 towards the cost of blood and Rs. 50 to Rs. 100 as the cost of transportation depending on the distance involved

  • Once the hospitals place to request for blood, blood sample of the patient will be taken from the hospital by the personnel of the agency appointed for the purpose who will also deliver the blood once the sample is cross-matched

Implementation of Jeevan Amrut Yojana:

  1. The Jeevan amrut yojana scheme is implemented by health department of Maharashtra
  2. A call center has been set up in Pune, he said adding that on dialing 104 to the call center, the information regarding blood requirement will be forwarded to the district blood banks
