Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Research Associateship (RA) for Foreign Nationals

Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Research Associateship (RA) for Foreign Nationals scheme was started keeping in view of the political and cultural bilateral relations of India with other developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America. The scheme has opened new aspects for foreign students and teachers, enabling them to come to India and undertake advanced studies and research in sciences, humanities and social sciences in Indian Universities. The objective of the scheme is to provide an opportunity to foreign students and teachers from developing countries to undertake advanced study and research leading to M.Phil/Ph.D. and postdoctoral research in sciences, humanities and social sciences at Indian Universities.

Benefits of Junior Research Fellowship and Research Associateship for Foreign Nationals:

  • The Financial assistance for Junior Research Fellowship is follow:
  1. The Research Fellowship in Humanities & Social Sciences Students provides benefits in terms of financial assistance to the students who wants to pursue research leading to a Ph.D. degree in engineering and technology
  2. Fellowship: Rs. 12000/- per month for initial two years and Rs. 14000/- per month for remaining tenure
  3. Contingency: Rs. 10000/- per annum for initial two years and Rs. 20500/- per annum for remaining tenure
  4. Departmental Assistance: Rs. 3000/- per annum per student to the host institution for providing infrastructure to the researcher
  5. Escorts/Reader assistance: Rs. 2000/- per month in cases of physically handicapped & blind candidates
  6. HRA: As per rules of the University/ Institutions will be given
  • The Financial assistance for Research Associateship is as follow:
  1. Fellowship: Rs. 16000/- per month fixed for four years
  2. Contingency: Rs. 30000/- per annum
  3. Departmental Assistance: 10% of Associateship to the host institution for providing infrastructural facilities
  4. HRA: As per rules of the University/ Institutions will be given

Required eligibility and conditions for applying Junior Research Fellowship and Research Associateship for Foreign Nationals:

  1. Students and teachers should be from developing countries of Asia/Africa and Latin America
  2. For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF):
  3. Applicants age should be 35 years for male candidates as on 1 July of the year of application and 40 years for female candidates
  4. The candidates must have at least a high-class master’s degree with a second-class bachelor’s degree, or second-class master’s degree with a first-class bachelor’s degree
  5. For Research Associateship (RA):
  6. In case of male applicants the age should be 40 years as on 1st July of the year of application, and 45 years in the case of female candidates
  7. The candidates must have a doctorate degree, published research work to their credit and evidence of independent research work

Document Required for Junior Research Fellowship and Research Associateship for Foreign Nationals:

  1. Passport size photos
  2. Graduate and post graduate degree certificates
  3. Passport
  4. Identity proof
  5. Previous year Mark sheet
  6. Bank details
  7. Research related proof if any available
  8. Details of research for which candidate is applying

Application Procedure:

  1. Candidate has to download application form from official website i.e. http://www.ugc.ac.in/oldpdf/xiplanpdf/JRFSAforeignnational.pdf
  2. Fill the application form properly and attached all required documents along with signature of respective authorities like Principle, Head of the department
  3. Send it to respective address mention into references below
  4. Candidates will be shortlist on the basis of merit
  5. Shortlist candidates will get call for interview
  6. And then candidate will be selected
