Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahaabhiyan (KUSUM) Scheme to promote solar farming to be launched soon

The Government of India is planning to launch an innovative scheme called KUSUM / Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahaabhiyan Scheme. The objective of the scheme is to promote solar farming amongst farmers across India. Government has announced the budget of Rs. 1.4 lakh crores for the KUSUM scheme.

What is Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahaabhiyan (KUSUM) Scheme? The scheme will promote Solar Farming, a solar generation farm. Under the scheme government will help farmers in setting up and generating solar power up to 28,250 MW.

Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahaabhiyan (KUSUM) Scheme: Highlights

  • A budget of Rs. 48,000 crores is alloted under the Union Budget 2018-19 for next 10 years
  • Under the scheme 10,000 MW solar power plants will be setup on the barren land
  • They all together will serve 1.75 million solar agricultural pumps
  • Opportunity for farmers to earn extra income by selling solar power they generated
  • The solar energy produced by the farmers will be purchased by the state electricity department
  • The KUSUM scheme will decrease the use of electric and diesel pumps in the farms
