Majoni Scheme for Girl Child

The Majoni Scheme for Girl Child is started by Assam Government (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) to provide social assistance to all girl children born in the family. Under this scheme, all newborn girl child will get a fixed deposit of Rs. 5000 on her birth and the same can be en-cashed by the girl child once she is 18 years of age. While would-be mothers will get Rs 1,000 in cash and Rs. 500 each at the time of the first two check-ups. The main objective of this scheme is to promote women empowerment. She can use the money to get admission in a college when she turns 16, after passing her board exams, and two years later when she completes 12th standard and qualifies to get admission in any college for higher education she can use the remaining amount.

  • Majoni scheme pays pregnant mothers 1,000 for two health checkups Rs. 500 each
  • The scheme provides a fixed deposit of 5000 for a newborn girl child. The fixed deposit of Rs. 5,000 can be encased by the girl herself when she turns 18 years ago

Required eligibility and conditions for applying Majoni Scheme for Girl Child:

  1. The birth must be Institutional
  2. This scheme is applicable to families who are limiting themselves to two children
  3. If both the first and second issues are girls, both girls will be eligible
  4. If one is a girl and another a boy, only the girl will be eligible
  5. The birth will have to be registered
  6. The FD will be issued in the name of the girl child and the date of maturity will be the eighteenth birthday of the girl (Completion of 18 years)
  7. In case she is married before attaining 18 years of age, the fixed deposit will be deprived

Document required for applying Majoni Scheme for Girl Child:   

  1. Copy of birth certificate from the Institution where delivery has taken place
  2. Copy of registered birth certificate issued by competent authority
  3. 2 sets of attested photographs of both mother and father
  4. One set to be affirmed on form
  5. Aadhar card
  6. Bank details e.g. account holder name, account number, IFSC code, MICR code
