To provide assistance to the families who lost their family member due to covid-19 thereby ensuring their welfare

On June 22, 2021 the Department of Social Welfare released a notification for marking the start of Mukhyamantri Covid-19 Pariwar Aarthik Sahayata Yojana. This scheme was announced by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. This scheme is mainly started for providing financial assistance to the families of the persons deceased due to covid-19. Under this scheme an ex-gratia amount of Rs. 50,000 will be given to each family who lost its family member due to covid-19. An additional financial assistance of Rs. 2,500 will be given in case of death of working member or sole bread earner of the family. In such cases, the government will also consider single member of the concerned family to be enrolled as a civil defence volunteer. Efforts will also be made by the government to take care of the health and education of dependent children in case of death of an earning parent/ both the parents due to covid. This scheme mainly aims at ensuring welfare of the family in case of unprecedented event of death due to covid-19.

Major Benefit:

Objectives and Benefits:

Eligibility:

  • Only families residing in Delhi will be eligible
  • Death of the person should be due to Covid-19 infection
  • Deaths due to covid at home and at institutional settings/ hospitals both will be covered

Documents Required:

  • Proof of residence of both deceased member and dependent members
  • Death Certificate
  • Proof of Covid death
  • Documents establishing relationship between deceased and applicants
  • Bank account details of the applicant

Eligible dependent and Assistance:

  • In case of death of husband, the wife will be eligible for an assistance of Rs. 2,500 for life. IN addition to this she will also be eligible for widow pension.
  • In case of death of wife, the husband will be eligible for an assistance of Rs. 2,500 for life
  • In case of death of single parent (other parent died/ separated/ divorced) each child below 25 years of age will be eligible for an assistance of Rs. 2,500 till he/ she attains 25 years of age
  • In case of death of both husband and wife (atleast one of them due to covid) each child below 25 years of age will be eligible for an assistance of Rs. 2,500 till he/ she attains 25 years of age
  • In case of death of unmarried working son/ daughter, the father or mother will be eligible for an assistance of Rs. 2,500 for life
  • In case of death of working brother/ sister the dependent brother/ sister if they are physically or mentally challenged will be eligible for an assistance of Rs. 2,500 for life

Process:

  • Health Department, Delhi will share the list/ database of all the deaths due to covid-19 in the state with the Department of Social Welfare
  • This list will then be given to the SDMs for verification
  • SDM will appoint 100 officials of Delhi government as representatives at sub divisional level to conduct home visit
  • SDM shall digitally assign the officials for home visit for verification at the address provided
  • The officials will conduct their visit and verify the details in the applications
  • They will recommend the family for preparation of documents like death certificate, hospital report etc and will note the details of children below 25 years of age for determining the assistance amount
  • After the verification, a report will be submitted by the officials to the SDM based on the same
  • The SDM will send his recommendation accordingly
  • This recommendation will be sent online through the e district portal to the Department of Social Welfare within 12 days
  • Department will check the recommendation and shall approve/ reject the same
  • Once approved the assistance amount will be transferred to the beneficiary within 15 days
