National Fellowship for OBC Students

The National Fellowship for OBC Students is started by central government (ministry of social justice & empowerment) for OBC students. The scheme is open to all candidates who belong to other backward classes (OBC) and wish to pursue higher studies such as regular and full-time M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology

Benefits of National Fellowship for OBC Students:

  • Fellowship in Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Engineering & Technology: For JRF (junior research fellowship) 25000/-per month for initial two years and for SRF (senior research fellowship) 28000/-per month for remaining tenure
  • Contingency A: Humanities and Social Sciences Rs.10000/-per annum for initial two years and Rs.20500/-per annum for remaining tenure
  • Contingency B: For Sciences, Engineering & Technology Rs.12000/-per annum for initial two years and 25000/-per annum for remaining tenure
  • Departmental Assistance: For all disciplines Rs. 3000/- per annum per student to the host institution for providing infrastructure
  • Escorts/Reader assistance: For all disciplines Rs. 2000/- per month in cases of physically handicapped & blind candidates
  • HRA: For all disciplines as per rules of university/institution
  • Medical facility also will be provided
  • There is 3% reservation for OBC disable students

Required eligibility for applying National Fellowship for OBC Students:

  1. The candidate should belong to OBC
  2. The selection will be made on the basis of merit of the candidates
  3. The candidate must have passed the Post Graduate examination
  4. The annual income of the beneficiary/parents or guardian of the beneficiary does not exceed Rs. 6.00 lakh per annum from all sources
  5. The candidate who is already registered for M.Phil/Ph.D. will be eligible for the consideration for award of fellowship under cited scheme

Application procedure for applying National Fellowship for OBC Students and document required:  

  1. Caste certificate
  2. Non-creamy layer certificate
  3. Income certificate
  4. Aadhar card
  5. Residence proof e.g. electricity bill
  6. Passport size photo
  7. Bank passbook, account number, account holder name, IFSC code, MICR code

 Duration of Fellowships:

  1. Phil : For JFR – 2 years and For SFR – Nil
  2. Ph.D: For JFR – 2 years and For SFR – 3 years
  3. Phil + Ph.D.: For JFR – 2 years and For SFR – 3 years
