North Eastern Council Scholarship (NECS)

The North Eastern Council Scholarship is started by Central Government (North Eastern Council) for students of North Eastern States like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. The main objective of this scheme is to provide a scholarship in the form of financial assistance to the meritorious students of these states. Under this scheme students will get able to pursue the higher education and students will able to reduce the financial burden required to pursue education. The scheme provides a scholarship for Diploma, Degree, Post Graduate, M.Phil courses. The scheme aimed to educational upliftment of students Below Poverty Line (BPL) who lives in one of the states of NEC. Forgetting eligible of this scheme candidate needs to qualify some eligibility norms which are mentioned below

Benefits of North Eastern Council Scholarship:

  • North Eastern Council Scholarship provides benefits in the form of financial assistance to the students. Rates of scholarship are mentioned below
  • Diploma: Stipend Rs. 900 per and Book grant month Rs. 1000 per annum
  • Degree: Stipend Rs. 1000 per and Book grant month Rs. 1400 per annum
  • Post Graduate: Stipend Rs. 1200 per and Book grant month Rs. 2000 per annum
  • M.Phil: Stipend Rs. 1500 per and Book grant month Rs. 3000 per annum
  • P.hD.: Stipend Rs. 1500 per and Book grant month Rs. 3000 per annum

Required eligibility and conditions for applying for North Eastern Council Scholarship:

  1. A candidate must be a permanent resident of any of the North East States
  2. The maximum marks for getting eligible should be 55% or 75% for General, OBC, MOBC and 50% or 60% for SC/ST candidates in the relevant qualifying examination for Diploma, Degree, and Post-Graduate courses
  3. The candidate must have the relevant qualification from any recognized institution
  4. Selection of students from M.Phil and Ph.D. should be done on the basis of the topic of research which has relevance to N.E. Region
  5. These NEC stipends and book grants are available for studies in India only and are awarded by the North Eastern States from the fund allotted by North Eastern Council Secretariat, Shillong
  6. Note: Please make sure that scheme is implemented by eight northeastern states that’s why application procedure, eligibility and conditions and rates of scholarship are different

  1. Previous years Marksheets
  2. Degree certificate
  3. Permanent residence certificate
  4. Aadhar card
  5. Bonafide certificate
  6. Caste certificate
  7. Domicile certificate
  8. Research related certificate or documents
  9. Passport size photo
  10. Bank details e.g. account number, account holder name, IFSC code, MICR code, branch name
  11. Identity proof
  12. The certificate to this effect obtained from the Deputy Commissioner of the district in which the candidate is a permanent resident must be produced by the candidate. However, certificates from any other authority will not be accepted
