To enable betterment and welfare of children across the country who lost both the parents/ at least one of the parents due to covid / देश भर में उन बच्चों की बेहतरी और कल्याण के लिए, जिन्होंने कोविड के कारण माता-पिता को खो दिया है।

On May 29, 2021 the Central government announced various measures under ‘PM-CARES for Children’ scheme for the children facing hardships due to the pandemic situations. This announcement was made by Hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Under this scheme the central government will take various welfare measures pay for those children who lost their both parents/ surviving parent/ guardian/ adoptive parents due to Covid-19. The central government will provide a corpus of Rs. 10 lakhs for each child when he/ she reaches the age of 18 years. The children under 10 years of age will be given admission in nearest Kendriya Vidyalaya or in a private school and fees will be paid from the PM CARES. Children between 11 to 18 years of age will be given admission in central government residential schools like Sainik School, Navodaya Vidyalaya, etc and the fees will be paid from the PM CARES. Educational loans will be provided to the students for higher education and the loan interest will be paid from the PM CARES. This scheme is an important step taken by the central government to take care of the beneficiary children in these tough times.

Objectives and Benefits:

  • The main objective of the scheme is to provide assistance to the children who lost their parents due to covid
  • Under the scheme, a financial assistance through a corpus of Rs. 10 lakhs for each child when he/ she reaches the age of 18 years
  • The children under 10 years of age will be given admission in nearest Kendriya Vidyalaya or in a private school and fees will be paid from the PM CARES. Children between 11 to 18 years of age will be given admission in central government residential schools like Sainik School, Navodaya Vidyalaya, etc and the fees will be paid from the PM CARES.
  • Educational loans will be provided to the students for higher education and the loan interest will be paid from the PM CARES.
  • These children will also be covered under Ayushman Bharat Scheme with a health insurance of Rs. 5 lakhs and the premium amount till the child attains 18 years of age will be paid from the PM CARES.

Scheme Details:

  • Central government announced ‘PM-CARES for Children’ Scheme for children across the country who lost their parents due to covid.
  • The announcement of the scheme was made by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 29, 2021.
  • This scheme is launched for the welfare and social security of the children who lost their parents or are orphaned due to covid
  • Under the scheme, a financial assistance through a corpus of Rs. 10 lakhs for each child when he/ she reaches the age of 18 years.
  • This corpus will be divided as a monthly financial support during higher education for 5 years from 18 years to 23 years of age.
  • After attaining the age of 23 years he/ she will get the corpus amount as lumpsum for personal and professional use.
  • The children under 10 years of age will be given admission in nearest Kendriya Vidyalaya or in a private school as a day scholar and fees will be paid from the PM CARES.
  • The Children between 11 to 18 years of age will be given admission in central government residential schools like Sainik School, Navodaya Vidyalaya, etc and the fees will be paid from the PM CARES.
  • Expenditure on uniform, text books and notebooks will also be paid from the PM CARES.
  • Educational loans will be provided to the students for higher education and the loan interest will be paid from the PM CARES.
  • Scholarship equivalent to the tuition fees/ course fees for undergraduate/ vocational courses as er the government norms will also be provided to the children under central/ state government schemes.
  • Children who are not eligible under any existing scholarship scheme will be provided an equivalent scholarship under PM CARES.
  • These children will also be covered under Ayushman Bharat Scheme with a health insurance of Rs. 5 lakhs and the premium amount till the child attains 18 years of age will be paid from the PM CARES.
  • While announcing various measures, PM stated that children represent the future of the country and the country will do every possible support to help and protect the children for making them strong citizens and helping them to have a bright future.
  • PM also stated that these measures have been possible due to the generous contributions made to the PM CARES Fund.
  • Covid-19 pandemic has affected a lot of people including children and thus central government is taking efforts to assist the children in these tough and unprecedented times thereby ensuring their welfare and social security.
  • This scheme is a crucial step by the government which will turn out to be a boon for the affected children across the country.
