How many of us are aware of the term “Philately”? Well, not many and Philately means the collection and study of postage stamps. And each country holds their historical significance in the postage stamps. But today its popularity is diminishing with the commencement of Internet and in the age of blogging and electronic email. Since 1840 the postage stamps are into the system and it gave birth to stamp collectors. And today when it is not popular many collectors collect stamps as their hobby. Realizing the importance of postage stamps Central Government launched a new scheme which offers the scholarship to the school going people who collect stamps as the hobby. The name of the scheme is Deendayal SPARSH Yojana (Scholarship for Promotion of Aptitude and Research in Stamps as a Hobby).
The scheme selects 920 students from all over the country who will be awarded the scholarship of Rs. 500 per month or say Rs. 6000 per annum which will help to keep their hobby alive. The students of class VI, VII, VIII, and IX are mainly encouraged to apply for the scholarship.
How to apply for Deendayal SPARSH scholarship?
There will be an online application for each circle for which the notification will be given to the school. And after the form goes live students can submit their application to the circle in which their school is located.
Selection Procedure?
The selection procedure is based on circles of postal areas and each circle will select 40 students for the scholarship. 10 students from each standard. The selection is based on the performance in the previous examination and the project work student have in postage stamp work or the performance in collecting and additionally how the student performs in the Philately quiz conducted by the circles. And if a student doesn’t get select in the current year’s scholarship program he/she can apply again for the next year program or the selected student can apply for renewal of their scholarship also.
Eligibility for the Deendayal SPARSH scholarship:
There are not many criteria but the only two and they are
1. student applying for the scholarship must have secured the minimum of 60% marks in the previous examination and for SC/ST category student the score limit is 55%
2. Should be able to proof the hobby of Philately if required
3. Student should be from a recognized school in India and must have a Philately club in school
4. Students who do not have Philately club in schools will also be considered for the scholarship but for that student should have his/her own Philately account
