An internship provides students with an invaluable opportunity to gain practical work experience under the guidance of qualified and experienced supervisors and mentors. It facilitates active participation in the learning process, allowing students to apply the knowledge acquired in the classroom through experimentation. In order to enhance the management and implementation of various schemes and programs, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has introduced the “Internship Guidelines” for the Digital India Internship Scheme. These guidelines establish a framework for engaging interns for a limited period, contributing to the larger benefit of the student community.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is responsible for formulating, implementing, and reviewing national policies in the field of Information Technology, Electronics, and the Internet (excluding licensing of Internet Service Providers). MeitY’s mission is to promote e-Governance for empowering citizens, foster inclusive and sustainable growth in the Electronics, IT, and ITeS industries, enhance India’s role in Internet Governance, develop human resources, encourage research and innovation, improve efficiency through digital services, and ensure a secure cyber space.
Eligibility: Indian Students Eligible for the Digital India Internship Scheme
To be eligible for the Digital India Internship Scheme, Indian students must be enrolled in recognized universities in India and have secured a minimum of 60% marks in their last degree or certificate examination. The following academic qualifications are accepted for consideration:
- B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Computer Science (CS), IT, Electronics & Communications (EC), Electronics, or Electrical.
- M.Sc. in Computer Science (CS), IT, Electronics, or Electrical.
- MCA/DOEACC ‘B’ level.
- LL.B.
- B.A./M.A. in Economics (Hons.).
Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an internship in the Ministry. Candidates with exposure in their intended area of internship, along with a strong academic background and higher qualifications, will be given preference based on the specific needs.

The Digital India Internship Scheme offers internship opportunities in the vibrant city of New Delhi. Interns will have the chance to work in a dynamic and innovative environment, contributing to the digital transformation initiatives of the Ministry.
How to Apply: Online Application Process for the Digital India Internship Scheme
Interested and eligible students must apply online through the official website of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The application should be sponsored or forwarded by the institution where the applicant is currently enrolled.
Selection: Selection Process for Interns in the Digital India Internship Scheme
The selection of interns for the Digital India Internship Scheme will be carried out by the respective organizations, groups, and divisions based on their specific domains. The selection process may involve personal or Skype interviews if deemed necessary. Candidates are responsible for their own travel expenses and will not receive any reimbursement for attending the interviews. The list of selected candidates will be displayed on the web portal.
Placement: Supervisors and Assurance of Employment with the Digital India Internship Scheme
Every batch of interns, or individual interns, will be assigned a scientific/technical project supervisor/mentor from the Ministry. It is important to note that the internship does not guarantee employment with the Ministry. However, the experience gained during the internship will be valuable for future career prospects.
Token Stipend: Financial Benefits for Interns in the Digital India Internship Scheme
Interns participating in the Digital India Internship Scheme will receive a token stipend of Rs. 10,000 per month, subject to satisfactory performance as certified by their supervisor/mentor. The stipend will be paid after the completion of the internship upon submission of an accepted internship report to the Ministry.
Certificate of Internship: Recognition and Certification for Successful Completion of the Internship
Upon successful completion of the internship and submission of the internship report, interns will be awarded certificates by the Ministry. These certificates will be duly countersigned and accepted by the competent authority, serving as a testament to the skills and knowledge acquired during the internship period.

- Launch Date: 9th May 2023
- Submission of Application Online by Candidates: 9th to 31st May 2023
- Selection/Scrutiny of Applications: 1st June to 8th June 2023
- Result of Selected Interns: 9th June 2023
- Offer of Internship (by Admin): 9th June 2023
- Applicant to Confirm for Internship: 9th to 12th June 2023
- System to Reject Application (If Applicant Doesn’t Confirm): 13th June 2023
- Issuance of Confirmation Letter to Confirmed Candidates (By Admin): 13th June 2023
- Commencement Date of Internship: 19th June 2023
- Completion Date of Internship: 18th August 2023
- Submission of Report by Intern: 18th to 22nd August 2023
- Report to be Accepted and Uploaded by Individual GC: 18th to 25th August 2023
- Issuance of Completion Certificate (By Admin): 28th to 31st August 2023

- GCs to Finalize from Waitlisted Candidates: 14th to 16th June 2023
- Offer of Internship (by Admin): 19th June 2023
- Applicant to Confirm for Internship: 19th to 20th June 2023
- Issuance of Confirmation Letter (By Admin): 19th to 20th June 2023
- Commencement Date of Internship: 26th June 2023
- Completion Date of Internship: 25th August 2023
- Submission of Report by Intern: 25th to 29th August 2023
- Report to be Accepted and Uploaded by Individual GC: 25th August to 1st September 2023
- Issuance of Completion Certificate (By Admin): 4th to 8th September 2023
