The Free Operations Scheme for Children Having Congenital Heart Disease is started by Assam Government (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) for providing free operations to children having congenital heart disease. The cost of treatment is very high. The government of Assam has initiated a scheme for free treatment of children with congenital heart defects in Narayana Hrudyalaya Hospital Bangalore and Kolkata. According to the scheme, the government to provide free airfare between Assam and Bangalore/Kolkata for the patient and a guardian, all medical expenses incurred at Narayana Hrudyalaya Bangalore and Kolkata and food and lodging expenses during treatment for the patient and a guardian

Required eligibility and conditions for applying Free Operations Scheme for Children Having Congenital Heart Disease:

  1. Children between the age 0-14 years who have been certified by the HOD Pediatric Surgery, GMCH as requiring cardiac surgery are eligible
  2. The guardian must be a permanent resident of Assam
  3. Candidates parental income should not exceed Rs. 6.00 lakh per year

Document required for applying Free Operations Scheme for Children Having Congenital Heart Disease:

  1. Income certificate should not exceed Rs. 6.00 lakh per year
  2. Permanent residence certificate e.g. certificate form residence authority
  3. Address proof e.g. Aadhar card
  4. Application to the nodal officer for financial aid
  5. Medical certificate requiring cardiac surgery by a competent and qualified cardiac surgeon
  6. All relevant documents related to the illness including expenditure receipts of laboratory tests (viz. x-ray report, doctors advice, pathology test report etc) shall be presented to the Nodal Officer for consideration of the case
  7. Referral certificate for cardiac surgery including name of referral center
  8. Details of employment of guardian
  9. Letter from referral hospital mentioning the tentative date of operation
  10. The patient must present himself before the State Nodal Officer, or, be exempted from physical examination by him with grounds for such exemption

  1. Application form shall be available to the Nodal Officer, Superintendent, GMCH and the reception counter of GMCH (Gauhati Medical College and Hospital)
