The State Government of Karnataka has announced new scheme called Gas Bhagya Scheme for women in the state. Under this scheme, state government provides the cooking stove and free LPG gas connection to the woman who belongs to below poverty line (BPL)This scheme is expected to benefit about 40% of almost 1 Crore below poverty line (BPL) families in Karnataka state. This scheme helps those women who use kerosene oil, wood, paper, and cow dung cake and crop residue for daily cooking.

The main objective of this scheme is to provide a smoke-free and healthy environment to the women across the nation. In this modern age, many women across the country still continue to face the adverse health effect by inhaling smoke emitted from burning firewood. Many families of Karnataka from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) were facing the health hazards until now as they had to cook food on traditional chullahs. The government took the very good initiative to provide them with the smoke-free and healthy environment with the help of free gas stove and LPG gas connection in the state. The government has aimed to empower women and protecting their health and reducing the serious health hazards associated with cooking based on fossil fuel

Eligibility for Gas Bhagya Scheme:

  1. Applicant should be resident of Karnataka state
  2. Women belong to below poverty line (BPL) are eligible for free LPG gas connection

Documents required for Gas Bhagya Scheme:

  1. Identity card such as Aadhaar card
  2. BPL card
  3. Address proof

How to apply for Gas Bhagya Scheme:

  1. Applicant should visit gram panchayat, panchayat samiti and Zilla Parishad related to Taluka/district in Karnataka
  2. Applicant also visit collector office in the state
