Scheme for Infrastructure Development in Minority Institutes (IDMI)

Infrastructure Development in Minority Institutes (IDMI) scheme would facilitate the education of minorities by augmenting and strengthening school infrastructure in Minority Institutions in order to expand facilities for formal education to children of minority communities. The scheme will cover the entire country but, preference will be given to minority institutions (private aided/unaided schools) located in districts, blocks and towns having a minority population above 20%. The scheme also encourages educational facilities for girls, children with special needs and those who are most deprived educationally amongst minorities. The scheme will fund infrastructure development of private aided/unaided minority institutions to the extent of 75% and subject to a maximum of Rs. 50 lakhs per institution for strengthening of educational infrastructure and physical facilities in the existing school including additional classrooms, science/computer lab rooms, library rooms, toilets, drinking water facilities and hostel buildings for children especially for girls

Benefits of Infrastructure Development in Minority Institutes (IDMI):

  • Financial Assistance is given to the voluntary organizations, societies, and trusts
  • The scheme will fund for infrastructure development of private aided, unaided minority elementary, secondary, senior secondary schools to the extent of 75% and subject to a maximum of Rs. 50 lakhs per school
  • Hostel buildings for children in such category of schools, especially for girls
  • Strengthening of educational infrastructure
  • Computer lab, drinking water, Classroom can come under the scheme

Objectives Of Infrastructure Development In Minority Institutes (IDMI):

  1. The scheme provides education of minorities by augmenting and strengthening school infrastructure in Minority Institutions (elementary/ secondary/senior secondary schools) in order to expand facilities for formal education to children of minority communities. The scheme will inter alia encourage educational facilities for girls, children with special needs and those who are most deprived educationally amongst minorities

Eligibility for Infrastructure Development in Minority Institutes (IDMI):

  1. Voluntary organizations, societies, trusts running institutes or schools that are recognized by Central or State governments shall be eligible to apply for assistance under the scheme
  2. Only those voluntary agencies, which have been in existence for a minimum of three years are eligible for this would be considered for assistance under this scheme
  3. Voluntary organizations eligible under the scheme
  4. The institute or school for which assistance is sort is functioning at least 3 years and have the substantial enrollment of children from the minority communities. The institution or school should not be a commercialized school charging high fees
  5. The application of the voluntary organization will be addressed to the concerned Secretary of the State/UT, who will be the Chairperson of Grant-in-Aid committee in the State/UT

Implementation of Infrastructure Development in Minority Institutes (IDMI):

  1. The scheme will be implemented by the State Government
  2. The performance of the scheme will be evaluated by the Central & State Governments as appropriate but definitely once after completion of two years of its operation
  3. The Central & State Governments will widely publicize the scheme
  4. The State Government will draw up and notify criteria for prioritization of applications under this scheme and give it wide publicity
