Kerala government has announced a new loan scheme for OBC entrepreneurs and startups in the state. The announcement was made by the Industries Minister A. C. Moideen in an exhibition at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Kaloor. Under the scheme a loan upto Rs. 10 lakh would be granted. The loan scheme`s goal is to promote entrepreneurship and self employment opportunities in Kerala and also to empower youth and create job opportunities at the local level. The scheme will be implemented by the Kerala State Backward Classes Development Corporation (KSBCDC).
Loan and subsidy:
- Loan of Rs. 5 lakhs at an interest rate of 6% will be given to OBC applicants from the rural areas where as
- Loan amount of Rs. 10 lakhs at interest rate of 7% will be given to applicants from the urban areas
- Repayment period of the loan would be 84 months i.e. loan needs to be repaid in 84 month
- 20% of the loan scheme or maximum upto Rs. 2 lakh would be provided as subsidy
- Repayment of the loan would be excluding subsidy
Eligibility for application:
- The applicant must be a resident of Kerala
- Applicant must be from OBC category
- Family income of the applicant from rural areas should not be more than Rs. 98,000 per year
- Family income of the applicant in urban areas should not be more than Rs. 1,20,000
- The applicant must have completed professional courses such as be BE, B. Tech, MBBS, BDS, BHMS etc
- The applicant should not be more than 40 years of age
