The State Government of Uttarakhand (Social Welfare Department) provides Legal Aid to the Women who are suffering from Dowry & harassment in Uttarakhand. In this scheme, women who are suffering from harassed due to dowry have lodged the first information report in the police station or dispute in court then government provides financial assistance to such women in the state. Women whose income is less than Rs. 1000/- per month are eligible to get financial assistance of Rs. 400/- per month from the Government. In our Indian society, there are numerous problems with superstitions, illiteracy, caste system and dowry system, etc. Dowry is the worst evils system of our Indian Society. The word ‘dowry’ means the property and money that a bride brings to her husband’s house at the time of her marriage. Many homes are broken and several families are driven to ruin only because of dowry. Social Welfare Department of Uttarakhand has taken a very good intuitive by providing legal aid to the women suffering from Dowry
Benefits of Legal Aid to the Women Suffering from Dowry:
- Women who are suffering from harassment due to dowry & lodged the first information report (FIR) in the police station or dispute in court then government provides financial assistance of Rs. 400/- per month to such women in the state
Eligibility for Legal Aid to the Women Suffering from Dowry:
- Applicant should be resident of Uttarakhand state
- Applicant monthly income should be less than 1000/- per month
- Women should have lodged the first information report (FIR) against dowry

- Aadhaar card
- Marriage certificate
- Domicile certificate
- First Information Report (FIR) copy
- Income certificate
