National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme

National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme is the scheme which is actually formed by merging two different schemes. Initially it is the combination of the two schemes started in the year 1961-62 and another one in the year 1971-72. But to facilitate the scheme more efficiently the scheme got merged and it was named as National Merit Scholarship Scheme. But then for one year there was no fund given for the scheme and hence in the year 2007-08 the scheme was rejuvenated and now the scheme is named ad National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme. Now the scheme aims at providing scholarship in the form of financial assistance to meritorious but poor students from class IX to post graduation level. Out of total scholarships 50% scholarships are reserved for girls.

Benefits of National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme:

  • 1000 scholarship per month: Candidates who is studying at graduation level will get Rs. 1000 per month of scholarship
  • 2000 scholarship per month: Students studying at post-graduation level will get Rs. 2000 scholarship per month
  • Every year candidate may avail the benefit: The scheme will provide the scholarship to the candidate for the 10 months of one academic year, then candidate has to renew the scheme

Eligibility for National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme:

  1. Candidate must have more than 80% of marks in his 10+2 exams to grab a scholarship at graduation level
  2. Candidate must be permanent resident of West Bengal state
  3. Candidate can be of any category (Gen/OBC/Min./SC/ST)

  1. Complete application form
  2. Resident proof (Aadhar Number, Ration Card, Landline telephone bill by MTNL, Driving License, Domicile certificate or Bank passbook of Nationalize banks)
  3. Previous year mark sheets
  4. Aadhar card
  5. Caste Certificate
  6. Non-Creamy Layer
  7. Income Certificate
  8. Passport size photographs
