Haryana government approved State Teacher Award Policy 2020, on September 16, 2020. This policy aims at recognizing the hard work and efforts of the teachers in the state. This policy will be deemed applicable from August 29, 2020. It will replace the previously framed policy in the year 2016. Under the policy teachers will be awarded to outstanding teachers working in Government or Government aided primary, secondary and higher secondary schools. The awards will be divided into 2 categories- Category A and B including Principal, Head Master High school, PGTs and PRTs, Head Teachers, C&Vs, TGTs, ESHMs.

Policy Objectives and Benefits:
- The main objective of the policy is to provide recognition to the school teachers in the state
- It aims at recognizing the efforts and service of the primary, secondary and higher secondary teachers working in the government schools.
- This policy will provide incentives to the selected teachers, including Principal, Head Master high school, PGTs of all subjects and PRTs, Head Teachers, C&Vs, TGTs (all subjects), ESHMs as per Category A and B.
- It will increase the prestige and recognition of the teachers in the state with respect to their regular and continuous service in the teaching sector
Award Categories:
- Category A (Secondary) – This category will include Principal, Head Master High School and PGTs (all subjects)
- Category B (Elementary) – This category will include PRTs, Head Teachers, C&Vs, TGTs (all subjects) and ESHMs
Eligibility:
Following are mainly eligible under the policy:
- Teachers with mentioned teaching experience as on March 31, 2020 are eligible for the award
- Classroom Teacher (regular) with minimum 15 years of continual teaching experience
- Head Master (regular) with minimum 15 years of continual teaching experience and 5 years’ service as Principal
- Teachers whose grading in the last 10 years Annual Confidential Reports are +A/A
- Teachers with 80% or more non board class results in the last 5 years
- Teachers/Principal/Head Master whose 10th and 12th board class results are not in minus as compared to the board results, in the last 5 years
Following are mainly not eligible under the policy:
- Educational Administrators including DEOs, BEOs, GETTIs, BITEs and staff of SCERT, SSA and staff working at the Directorate
- Retired Teachers
Basis for Selection:
- Academic efficiency
- Personal Achievements
- Involvement in social life of community
- Co-Curricular achievements of the students
Selection Process:
- Teachers will be selected by shortlisting process
- Firstly, the District level committee will shortlist the teachers in the state on the basis of their outstanding and exceptional academic efficiency, experience, personal achievements, etc
- These names of the shortlisted teachers will be recommended to the State level committee of the state government
- State level committee will examine the recommended list thereby
- Additional information may be asked for by the state committee
- Formal class room teaching evaluation of the shortlisted teachers maybe conducted by the state committee as required
- SCERT Gurgaon may also be asked by the committee to conduct a learning level evaluation of the children who are taught by the shortlisted teachers for real time updates
Award/ Incentives to the Selected-Awardee Teachers:
- Cash prize of Rs. 21,000
- 1 Silver medal
- 1 Certificate
- 1 Shawl
These 4 incentives will be given on Teachers Day function
- 2 years extension in service beyond superannuation – up to 60 years
- 2 advance increments along with dearness allowance for entire future service period
- These 2 incentives will have to be applied for via proper channel

- State Teacher Award Policy 2020 is approved by the Haryana government thereby replacing the policy framed in 2016
- Award will be granted to the exceptional teachers based on their efforts, contribution and continual service in the teaching field
- Best performing teachers in the state will be awarded a cash prize along with medal, certificate, shawl, extension in service period and increments
- Total 90 awards will be awarded to the selected teachers
- Out of these 90 awards, 45 awards will be given to lady teachers and 45 awards will be given to the male teachers
