To encourage and train young writers to come up and write on the subjects promoting Indian literature and culture globally / युवा लेखकों को विश्व स्तर पर भारतीय साहित्य और संस्कृति को बढ़ावा देने वाले विषयों पर लिखने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना और प्रशिक्षित करना

On June 8, 2021, Central government newly started YUVA – Prime Minister’s Scheme for Mentoring Young Authors Scheme. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is a mentoring and training scheme for young writers to pursue their love for writing and polish their writing skills. This scheme will select 75 writers under the age of 30 years across the nation based on their eligibility through a contest and train them under famous authors/ mentors from the panel of National Book Trust. Training will be done in 2 phases. Stipend of Rs. 50,000 per month will be provided during the training period. This scheme is launched by the government to encourage young writers to come up and write on subjects promoting Indian literature and culture and represent India globally.

  • This scheme tends to bring reading and authorship as a preferred profession unlike other
  • It will create a positive impact on the minds of children thereby helping the to overcome from the recent effect of pandemic on their mental health
  • It is an important step towards contributing to the vision of Prime Minister Modi to establish India as a Vishwa Guru.

Selection Procedure:

  • All India Contest will be held at mygov.in
  • It will run from June 4 to July 31, 2021
  • Contestants will be required to submit a manuscript of 5000 words to judge its suitability to develop as a proper book
  • Total 75 authors will be selected through the contest
  • Selection will be done by the committee constituted by the National Book Trust
  • Names of the selected authors will be announced on the occasion of Independence Day
  • Based on the mentor-ship, selected authors will get the training from the mentors
  • As per the training, manuscripts will be prepared for final selection

Training Details:

  • Training will consist of Phase-1 and Phase-2
  • In phase-1 (training-3 months), 2-week writers online training programme will be conducted by the national Book Trust for the selected candidates
  • Training will be conducted by 2 eminent writers /mentors
  • After training at writers’ online programme, the authors will be trained at various onsite/ online national camps organised by NBT for 2 weeks
  • In phase-2 (promotion – 3 months) the authors will get to learn and expand their skills through various international events such as Literary festivals, Book fairs, Virtual book fair, etc
  • A book or series of books written by the young writers will be published by NBT
  • Royalty of 10% will be paid to the authors on successful publication of their boos at the end of their mentor-ship programme
  • Published books will be translated into other Indian languages ensuring exchange of culture and literature between states
  • At the end of mentor-ship, a consolidated scholarship of Rs. 50,000 per month for a period of 6 months will be provided to each author
