Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the North Eastern Railway Apprentice recruitment, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Age Limit
- Minimum Age: 15 years
- Maximum Age: 24 years (as of August 2, 2023)
Age Relaxations:
- OBC category: 3 years
- SC/ST category: 5 years
- PwD category: 10 years
- Ex-servicemen: Additional 10 years for ex-servicemen to the extent of service rendered in Defense Forces plus 03 years provided they have put in a minimum of 6 months service at a stretch, except Ex-servicemen who have already joined the Govt. Service on the Civil side after availing the Ex-servicemen status for the purpose of their engagement.
Educational Qualification
- Matriculate or 10th Class in the 10+2 examination system with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized Board.
- ITI certificate in the notified trade is compulsory.
Note: Engineering graduates and diploma holders are not eligible to apply for apprenticeship in response to this notification as they are governed by a separate scheme of apprenticeship.
Application Process
The application process for the North Eastern Railway Apprentice recruitment is conducted online. Follow the steps below to apply:
Step 1: Visit the Official Website
Visit the official website of North Eastern Railway at www.ner.indianrailways.gov.in.
Step 2: New Registration
Click on the “New Registration” option and provide the required details such as name, community, date of birth, employee ID, mobile number, and email ID. Make sure to note down the registration number and password.
Step 3: Fill Application Form
Fill in the personal details, employment details, and educational qualifications in the application form. Then, upload the necessary documents on the dashboard.
Step 4: Upload Photograph and Signature
Upload a scanned copy of your photograph and signature as per the following specifications:

- Size: 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm
- Format: JPG/JPEG
- DPI: 100
- File Size: Between 20 kb – 70 kb
Signature:
- Size: 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm
- Format: JPG/JPEG

Step 5: Fee Payment
Pay the application fee through the integrated payment gateway. The fee details are as follows:
- General/Male (OBC) category: Rs. 100
- SC/ST/EWS/PWD/Women Applicants: Nil
After verifying the correctness of the application form, choose the preferred category and proceed to the final submission page.
Documents Required
Ensure that you have the following documents ready for filling the North Eastern Railway Apprentice application form:
- Aadhaar Card
- SSC (Standard 10th) or equivalent Mark Sheet
- Certificate for proof of date of birth (Standard 10th or equivalent certificate or mark sheet indicating date of birth or School Leaving Certificate indicating date of birth)
- Consolidated ITI mark sheet of all semesters of the trade in which you are applying/provisional National Trade Certificate indicating marks
- Caste certificate for SC/ST/OBC Applicants
- Disability certificate (if applicable)
- Discharge certificate/Serving certificate (for applicants applying against Ex-Servicemen quota)
Selection Process
The selection of eligible candidates for apprenticeship training will be based on a merit list. The merit list will be prepared by taking the average of the percentage of marks obtained by the candidates in both Matriculation (with minimum 50% aggregate marks) and ITI examination, giving equal weightage to both. Candidates can choose multiple units/places, and if their merit position does not allow for the first choice, they will be allotted a subsequent choice.
Candidates provisionally selected for Document Verification will be called for the verification process at Gorakhpur. They must bring a copy of the online application, Medical Certificate in the prescribed format, 4 passport-sized photographs, and all original certificates and testimonials for verification. The apprentice training for successful candidates will commence at the allotted Division/Unit.
Training & Stipend
The training for selected candidates will follow the standards and syllabus prescribed by the Central Apprenticeship Council, subject to registration with RDAT/Kanpur. The candidates will receive a stipend during the Apprenticeship at the prescribed rates as per the existing rules and instructions.
