Amnesty Scheme for property tax defaulters extended till Jan 26, 2021, Pune

To provide the tax payers with some relief in property tax payment due

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) approved the ‘Amnesty Scheme’ for the property tax defaulters in the city, on September 24, 2020. Under this scheme the penalty for delayed tax payment by the citizens will be waived off up to 80%. This scheme is applicable for only those property tax payers having dues less than 50 lakhs. This scheme was in force from October 02 to November 30, 2020. Now, PMC has approved the extension of amnesty scheme till January 26, 2021.

Scheme Objectives and Benefits:

  • The main objective is to provide some relief to the tax payers to overcome the financial issues raised due to the pandemic situation
  • It will motivate the property tax payers to pay and get all the dues cleared
  • It will help the tax payers to finish off the payment with lesser financial burden.
  • This scheme enabled the property tax payers to get an exemption in penalty up to 80% and now in the extended period the defaulters will get up to 75% rebate till December 31, 2020 and 70% rebate from January 1 to 26, 2021
  • This scheme will also help the civic body to get revenue

Key Points:

  • Due to a good response to the scheme and to assist the remaining defaulters, PMC decided to extend the scheme till January 26, 2021
  • This will give another chance to the remaining property tax defaulters to clear their dues
  • Now the defaulters will have to pay the due amount with 75% rebate on penalty. This will apply if the amount is paid till December 30, 2020
  • The due will have to be paid with 70% rebate on penalty, in case the amount is paid in between January 1 to January 26, 2021
  • Due to the pandemic situations, lot of people are affected financially and thus were not able to pay the property tax and the penalty due
  • This scheme is to provide some relief to the property tax payers
  • Property tax is a very important source of revenue and thus collection of the tax under this scheme will lead to increase in the revenue of the civic body
