Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has approved the ESIC Covid-19 relief scheme for assisting the dependent members of the insured employee who died due to covid. This scheme tends to provide financial and social security to the families of the insured people who lost their lives due to covid. It is announced to help the families of the employees and workers in case of unprecedented events like death. Upto 90% of the average daily wages of the insured person who died will be paid to the family members in regular periodic payments of Rs. 1,800 per month. Under the scheme, it is required that the insured person who died due to covid should have been registered on the ESIC portal at least 3 months prior to the date of diagnosis of being covid positive. This scheme will be in operation for 2 years starting from March 24, 2020.

Objectives and Benefits:

  • The main objective of this scheme is to assist the families of the insured employees/ workers in case of their death due to covid
  • This scheme will cover all the families of insured employees/ workers who have been registered on the ESIC portal at three months before the diagnosis of being covid positive
  • Financial assistance by the way upto 90% of the average daily wages in regular periodic payments of Rs. 1,800 per month, to the families of the deceased will be provided under the scheme
  • Spouse of the beneficiary will be eligible for medical care at ESIC institutions on depositing Rs. 120/- lumpsum for 1 year
  • Financial assistance of Rs. 15,000 is also provided to the eldest surviving member of the family of the deceased for performing the last rites
  • This scheme will assist the families and ensure their welfare in these unprecedented times

Scheme Details:

  • This scheme is announced in view of the impact of the prevalent second wave of the pandemic
  • All the families of insured employees/ workers state wise will be covered under this scheme
  • This scheme will be operational for 2 years starting from March 24, 2020
  • Under this scheme a financial assistance by the way of 90% of average daily wages of the insured person who died due to covid will be provided to the family in regular periodic payments of Rs. 1,800 per month
  • It is required that the person who died due to covid should be registered on the ESIC portal at 3 months before being diagnosed of covid
  • The deceased should also be employed on the date of diagnosis and contributions of at least last 70 days should have been paid or payable during 1 year period before being diagnosed
  • In case of those availing maternity benefit/ extended sickness benefit/ temporary disablement benefit, contributions of at least last 70 days should have been paid or payable during 1 year period before being diagnosed
  • Based on the number of days of availing maternity benefit/ extended sickness benefit/ temporary disablement benefit, the scheme benefit will be calculated
  • Spouse of the beneficiary will be eligible for medical care at ESIC institutions on depositing Rs. 120/- lumpsum for 1 year
  • Financial assistance of Rs. 15,000 is also provided to the eldest surviving member of the family of the deceased for performing the last rites
  • In case of death, the dependent will have to submit a claim for relief in a prescribed format along with covid positive report and death certificate of the deceased at the nearest branch
  • Documents like proof of age and identity like Aadhaar card/ Birth certificate will be required while submitting the claim
  • This scheme will ensure welfare and assistance to the families of the insured people who lost their lives due to covid
