Improving health and nutritional status of women and children in the state

On November 19, 2020, Rajasthan government launched ‘Indira Gandhi Maternity Nutrition Scheme’. The launch was inaugurated by CMO Rajasthan Mr. Ashok Gehlot through video conferencing. This scheme is launched mainly for promoting nourishment to pregnant women, lactating mothers and children. The aim of the scheme is to improve the health and well being of women and children in the state thereby reducing the level of malnutrition in them. It is a crucial step towards women empowerment in the state. Currently the scheme will be implemented in 4 most backward districts of the state – Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur and Pratapgarh.

Scheme Details and Benefits:

  • The main objective of the scheme is to promote proper nourishment to maternal women and children
  • It aims at reducing the malnutrition level in women and children
  • Under this scheme the nutrition level and mother’s health are given priority for proper development of children
  • Arrangements will be made to provide the nutritious food by the government through the Anganwadi centres
  • This scheme tends to encourage family planning
  • Financial assistance of Rs. 6,000/- will be given to the beneficiary women in 5 installments
  • Under this scheme, every year about 77,000 women are to be benefited

Phases/ Installments under the scheme:

  • Under this scheme a financial assistance of Rs. 6000/- will be given to the beneficiary women in 5 phases/ installments
  • First installment is of Rs. 1000/-. It will be given after the pregnancy test and registration
  • Second installment is of Rs. 1000/-. It will be given after completing at least 2 ante-natal check-ups
  • Third installment is of Rs. 1000/-. It will be given on Institutional delivery
  • Fourth installment is of Rs. 2000/-. It will be given after all the regular vaccines administered to the new born within 105 days of birth and after birth registration of the child
  • Fifth installment is of Rs. 1000/-. It is the last installment and will be given on the couple adopting a means of family planning withing 3 months of the new birth
