The Modi Government yet again extended the deadline for AADHAR to PAN card linking till 31st March 2018. This is the third extension for the PAN and AADHAR linking. The announcement is made by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). In an official statement CBDT said:
Many of the tax payers are yet to link their AADHAR with PAN card and hence to facilitate the process of linking it has been decided to further extend the time for linking AADHAR with PAN till 31st March 2018.
The linking of AADHAR and PAN card is made mandatory by the Government of India and linking them is required to get the benefits for most of the government schemes, services and subsidies. All the tax payers having AADHAR numbers are now required to link it with the PAN card under the newly enhanced section 139AA of the Income-tax Act, 1961 which was effective from 1st July 2017.
This is the third extension for AADHAR-PAN linking. Initially last date for AADHAR to PAN linking was supposed to be done by 31st August 2017 which was then extended to 31st December 2017 as recommended by the court. The government has informed the Supreme Court that they are willing to extend the deadline for mandatory AADHAR to PAN linking for availing 131 services and well fare schemes.

Government also wants citizens to link their mobile numbers with AADHAR card to avoid misuse of the cellular services by the miscreants.
