On May 29, 2021 the Assam government announced a new scheme named ‘Mukhyamantri Sishu Sewa Achoni Scheme’ for the children who lost their parents due to covid. This scheme is in line with the existing central government scheme. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Hemant Biswa Sarma. Under this scheme the state government will take various welfare measures pay for those children who lost their parents (at least one of them due to covid) and are facing hardships. A financial assistance of Rs. 3,500 per month will be provided to the child’s guardian in the extended family. Out of Rs. 3,500, Rs. 2000 will be provided from existing central governed scheme and the remaining from the state government. Children below 10 years of age with no guardian or care taker will be provided shelter at state government’s child care institutions. Upbringing and education of such children will be taken care of by the government. In case of girl who lost her parents and is of marriageable age the government will provide 1 tola of gold under Arundhati scheme and one time assistance of Rs. 50,000 for her marriage. Implementation of the schema will be taken care of by the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR).
