The International Driving License permits Indian citizens with valid Indian driving licenses to drive abroad legally. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is an identity document that allows the holder to drive a private motor vehicle in any country that recognizes IDP. To be valid, the IDP must be accompanied by a valid driving license. Individuals holding a valid Indian driving license who are traveling overseas may desire to drive while abroad. However, their Indian license may not be valid in those countries, necessitating the need to acquire an International Driving License. The license is easy to acquire and can be applied for before the applicant embarks on his/her trip abroad.

Document required for applying for International Driving license:
- Application form
- Copy of Indian Driving License
- Copy of passport and visa
- Medical certificate (as mentioned in the form)
- Identity card
- Address proof
- Aadhar card
- Passport size photograph
Required eligibility for application:
- Applicants have to be above 18 years of age at the time of applying
- Applicants have to possess a valid Indian driving license
- Individuals whose licenses have been revoked or have been seized cannot apply
- Applicants who have driving licenses issued in Maharashtra can apply for an international driving license only. Applicants whose licenses were issued in other states are required to change their address to their Maharashtra one before applying. Means person who has license of Maharashtra state only those people can apply in Maharashtra for application
- Applicants whose driving licenses were issued within 3 months of their application for an international driving license will have to re-take the driving test
- The validity of this permit is for one year. You are required to get your license from the country you’re visiting within one year period
Online application procedure:
- Applicant has to collect application form from RTO itself and need to fill it properly
- Applicants are required to submit the documents to the RTO in person and pay the application fee (Rs. 500) for the license
- The application will be verified by the RTO, and the license will be issued based on eligibility
- The license will be posted to the applicant’s address as mentioned on the form
