Smartphone Distribution Scheme, Punjab

Punjab government is about to start distributing smartphones to students for free on August 12, 2020. On the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, CMO Punjab, Mr. Amarinder Singh will be launching this scheme and start with the distribution of smartphones. The launch of the scheme will be organised at different locations like all headquarters and some major towns in Punjab and Chandigarh due to restrictions on large gatherings in current situations. This scheme is mainly to benefit the students to help them access online web content through smart phones during the lock-down.

• The main objective of the scheme is to provide the students with free smartphones to help them access the educational content online
• In the current situations, some of the youth is facing difficulties to access online education and thus it is an important step thereby avoiding any loss of study
• The smartphones will enable the access to unlimited information available on the web as well as the learning material posted by the department of education.
• This scheme mainly aims at enabling the students to keep a link to studying irrespective of the mode available.

• Students will have access to all the online educational content available on the web
• It will also have the learning material posted by the department of education.
• The phones will have pre-loaded government applications like e-Seva app with e-Content related to Class 11 and 12.
• The back of the phones will have an engraving of the CM with the words Captain Smart Connect

Schemes lunched by Punjab government

Key Points:

• Smartphone Distribution Scheme will be announced on August 12, 2020 at various places across the state.
• Government decided the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami to launch the distribution of the smartphones and coincidentally its International Youth Day on the same day
• A small function thereby following all the safety measures will be held
• All the district headquarters and some major towns will be covered
• Not more than 15 students studying in the respective town/district will be invited at the location for giving them the smartphones
• A target of distributing 1.78 lakh smartphones to class 12 students by November this year is set by the government
• The first batch of 50,000 smartphones will be done in the first phase
• Second batch will be procured soon and a schedule will be decided for the distribution process of the same.
• Thus, the state government is fulfilling its promise of distribution of smartphones for free, to all the class 2 students in the state.
