Punjab government is about to start distributing smartphones to students for free on August 12, 2020. On the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, CMO Punjab, Mr. Amarinder Singh will be launching this scheme and start with the distribution of smartphones. The launch of the scheme will be organised at different locations like all headquarters and some major towns in Punjab and Chandigarh due to restrictions on large gatherings in current situations. This scheme is mainly to benefit the students to help them access online web content through smart phones during the lock-down.

Scheme Objectives and Benefits:
- The main objective of the scheme is to provide the students with free smartphones to help them access the educational content online
- In the current situations, some of the youth is facing difficulties to access online education and thus it is an important step thereby avoiding any loss of study
- The smartphones will enable the access to unlimited information available on the web as well as the learning material posted by the department of education.
- This scheme mainly aims at enabling the students to keep a link to studying irrespective of the mode available.

- Second batch will be procured soon and a schedule will be decided for the distribution process of the same.
- Thus, the state government is fulfilling its promise of distribution of smartphones for free, to all the class 2 students in the state.
