Steering Scheme Kerala: Online taxi service scheme

The Kerala Government is planning to launched an online taxi service scheme in the state. The scheme is called as Steering Scheme. The scheme is for the SC/ST community in the state. It aims to provide employment to the youth from the community. Under the scheme an grant along with loan will be provided for the purchase of taxis/cabs. Eligible beneficiaries can run the taxi service & earn their living.

Objectives:

• To empower schedule cast & scheduled tribes
• To create job opportunities in the state

Benefits:

• Grant: Financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh will be provided by Kerala Government for the purchase of vehicle
• Loan: Loan at a minimum interest rates will be provided by the Kerala State Development Corporation for Scheduled Caste and Tribe Ltd
• After the loan repayment the beneficiary will own the car

Eligibility Criteria:

• Applicable only in Kerala state
• The applicant must be resident of Kerala
• He/she must be from SC/ST communities
• Applicant must have a valid driving license
• Age Limit: 18 to 35 years

Steering Scheme Highlights:

• The scheme will be implemented in phases
• In the first phase the online taxi service will be started in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Thrissur & Kozhikode districts
• Total of 150 taxis will be distributed in the first phase
• 30 taxis each will be provided in each of the district
• It will be online taxi-smart phone based service
• Citizens can use the mobile apps or call a call center to book a taxi

Amazon Shell Program:

• A program under Kudumbashree Scheme in Kerala
• The program is for women in the state
• It promote entrepreneurship among women in the state
• Kerala Government has partnered with the Amazon India for the program
• Amazon will support, train women entrepreneurs
• They will provide online marketplace for the women entrepreneurs so that they can sell their product on Amazon
