Union Health Minister (Government of India) JP Nadda has launched the Test and Treat policy for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) patients. As per new HIV policy, As soon as a person is tested and found HIV positive will get the necessary treatment free of cost. Anyone found positive will be provided with ART (Anti-Retroviral Therapy) irrespective of his CD count. In this scheme, all men, women, adolescents, and children who have diagnosed as an HIV + case can get benefits under Test & Treat Policy. This scheme helps HIV+ patient by improving their longevity, improve the quality of life of those infected and will save them from many opportunistic infections, especially from tuberculosis (TB). Human Immunodeficiency Virus attacks a person’s immune system. The immune system is the body’s defense against infections, such as bacteria and viruses. Once attacked by HIV, the immune system becomes deficient and doesn’t work properly. HIV destroys the CD4 T cells in the human body and weakens the immunity levels. A person who has CD4 cell count below 200 is considered to be at significant risk of developing serious illnesses. Before the announcement of this new policy, the government was providing free treatment to people with a count of 400 and below There are about 1,600 ART and Link ART sites across the country where treatment is provided to the HIV patient
