The UJALA Scheme is launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ministry of Power Government of India. The initiative is part of the Government of India’s efforts to spread the message of energy efficiency in the country. UJALA scheme aims to promote efficient use of energy at the residential level, enhance the awareness of consumers about the efficacy of using energy efficient appliances and aggregating demand to reduce the high initial costs thus facilitating higher uptake of LED lights by residential users. Under this scheme, UJALA LED bulbs can be purchased at a price between Rs. 75 to Rs. 95 per LED bulb. The prices of LED bulbs vary from state to state due to the difference in taxes. This scheme tends to save energy and spread the message of energy efficiency in the country. Every domestic household having a metered connection from their respective Electricity Distribution Company is eligible to get the LED bulbs under the UJALA Scheme. This scheme is open to all Indian citizen who has meter connection. People can take huge advantage of this scheme and can save electricity bill also
Benefits of UJALA Scheme:
- UJALA Scheme provides benefits by offering LED bulb in cheaper rate
- Under this scheme, UJALA LED bulbs can be purchased at a price between Rs. 75 to Rs. 95 per LED bulb
- Under this scheme, each household is eligible to get a maximum of 10 bulbs
- The consumer can purchase the LED on EMI payment (monthly/bimonthly installments in electricity bill) or on upfront payment by paying the full amount
- Using LED bulb saving of energy and electricity is possible
Required eligibility and conditions for applying UJALA Scheme:
- Every domestic household having a metered connection from their respective Electricity Distribution Company is eligible to get the LED bulbs under the UJALA Scheme
- Scheme is open to all Indian citizen
- Maximum 10 bulbs can be buy
Document required for applying UJALA Scheme:
- Aadhar card
- Copy of Government authorized ID proof
- Copy of latest electricity bill
Application procedure:
- UJALA LED bulbs are being distributed through special counters (kiosks) set up at designated places in a city. These will not be available at retail stores. The location details of distribution counters are available at ujala.gov.in, wherein the locations are geo-tagged for consumer convenience
